Wrapping up November with assessments
This week students from grades 2 , 3, and 4 participated in the MAP Growth Assessment. This is a trusted and innovative assessment for measuring achievement and growth in for grades K–12 in the areas of math, reading, language usage, and science. During the Fall assessment, we have selected to complete the Math and Reading portions and will consider expanding as we see fit. Grades K and 1 will be assessed at a later date. The goal is to provide teachers with accurate, and actionable evidence to help target instruction for each student or groups of students regardless of how far above or below they are from their grade level. Once we have the opportunity to review and analyse students' scores, teachers will confidently tailor instruction to challenge every student at their instructional level. Students will also be able to see their progress and be inspired to take charge of their own learning. Now that routine is in place, it is time to provide the academic rigor we aim to offer our Cashman students. We hope to complete all assessments by December 4th.

Absences
If you're child needs to be absent from school on any given day, a friendly reminder to please call our absentee line providing us with the reason for his/her/their absence. As you can imagine, a lot of what we do currently surrounds COVID-19, therefore having the reason for your child's absence could determine next steps on our safety and health protocols at school. I would like to reassure you that the confidentiality of all students and families is the utmost importance to us. These details will not be share anyone outside of the "need to know" personnel. We thank you for your collaboration.
CES School Council
A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, required to be established by each school pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.
The law outlines four major areas of responsibility for councils. School councils are to assist principals in:
Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
Reviewing the annual school building budget
Formulating a school improvement plan
There is to be membership parity among the parent, teacher and community members of the School Councils. Currently our Amesbury and Cashman Elementary School are looking for 2 parent representatives as well as a community representative. It is our goal to have this committee by the end of the 2020 year, so the first meeting can be held in January 2021.
If you have an interest in participating in this committee please submit your interest through the PTO’s Google Form “School Council Parent Interest Submission". All interests must be submitted by December 11th, 2020. At that time, PTO will review the applications and determine next steps.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
