Winter Percussion Wraps Up Season, Heads to State
The Scottsburg Winter Percussion traveled to Plainfield High School on Saturday, March 17th, to compete in the last regular-season Indiana Percussion Association circuit invitational. Scottsburg posted their best performance run of their show, “Ville de Lumiere,” and were awarded 3rd place in their class, finishing 2 points behind first. Scottsburg also posted their highest score of the season: 86.200. Congratulations to our students!
Scottsburg then traveled to Decatur Central High School for State Prelims at the beginning of Spring Break. Scottsburg was seeded 1st in their class (two highest scores of the season averaged together and groups ranked based on that average) and gave an even better performance of their show, and were awarded with a 1st place finish in their round of Percussion Scholastic Concert A Class, and are headed to State Finals for the 2nd consecutive year! Scottsburg will perform tomorrow morning at 11:51 AM at Terre Haute South Vigo High School, looking to capture a medalist spot for the first time since 2007.
Best of luck to the students, staff, and directors on a fantastic performance tomorrow at State Finals! Congratulations on all your accomplishments thus far!
SHS Art Show
The Scottsburg Art Show is going to be held on Thursday, April 12 at Scottsburg New Tech from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The art show will showcase artwork and photography from students in art and photojournalism classes. The art show will also be showcasing all of the art from the AP art class from this past school year in their AP portfolios.
“My favorite part of the art show is witnessing students taking pride in their artwork. It is awesome to see a students observing other admiring their art,” said Melissa Lyles, Art teacher at Scottsburg New Tech. Lyles says that there is no overall theme to the art show, but there are collaborative murals going to be there with the theme of “April showers bring May flowers”.
All of the artwork is going to be displayed in the hot room, but there will be a special exhibition of AP studio artwork in Mrs. Puckett’s room (214) during the New Tech Lunch. On top of that, most of the art from the art show will be moved to a student showcase sponsored by the Scott County Arts Council. It will be on display at Heacock’s Eastside Gallery for six weeks starting April 20.
Lyles said, “I am most excited for people to see the collaborative mural that the 2D art classes are creating, and the collaborative installation piece that the 3D class is building.”
She also said that she is excited that the artwork is going to be on display during the New Tech Family lunch because so many more people will be able to see this years art. Last year, many people were unable to see it unless they had come to the art show after school.

Varsity Winter Guard Wins Silver
The Scottsburg Varsity Winter Guard continued and finished their season the past few weekends at Center Grove High School and Northern Kentucky University, respectively by competing at the IHSCGA State Finals and the Tri-State Marching Arts Finals. Scottsburg had a good run of their show at state, and were awarded 12th place out of 16 finalists in IHSCGA State Finals, but capped their season with an excellent run at the Tri-State Finals and were named Silver Medalist in Scholastic A-2 Class! Congratulations to the students and staff on an excellent season this year!
The Winter Guard season as a whole wraps up tomorrow with the last weekend of the Tri-State Marching Arts Finals. The Junior Varsity and Middle School Winter Guards will travel to Ryle High School in Kentucky for their last competition of the season and compete for a medalist spot. Each guard must place in the top 3 to earn a medal. The Middle School Winter Guard will look to defend their 2017 Undefeated Gold Medalist title by repeating as a Gold Medalist and finishing the season undefeated for the 2nd straight season.
Best of luck to our students tomorrow and next weekend as they finish up their successful seasons and congratulations on all of your accomplishments thus far!
