Micro Grant Opportunity for Youth

The American Lung Association (ALA) is excited to offer STAND micro-grants for student and youth groups looking to host educational or advocacy events and activities centered on raising awareness among their peers about the harms and risks of tobacco, vaping, and nicotine.


Micro-grants of up to $250 will be awarded to student groups across Washington state to support school-based anti-tobacco engagement activities to be conducted by students through the end of the academic year. Anti-tobacco events may include, but are not limited to: Great American Smokeout (November 21), Kick Butts Day (March 20), and Earth Day (April 22) observance events; on-campus forums, panels, or debates; education or awareness poster contests; cigarette butt clean-up events; health fairs; surveying of the school community on tobacco issues; tobacco-related film viewing; anti-tobacco media campaigns, etc.


Applications will be accepted through March 1, 2020. Applications will be reviewed and applicants will be notified of a funding decision within one week of submission.

5,304 Pounds of Medicine Collected

On October 26th, 1,733 community members dropped off 5,304 pounds of medications and 1,539 pounds of sharps/syringes to local law enforcement officers for safe disposal. The medication disposal event was held at six locations throughout Clark and East Klickitat Counties, where a steady stream of cars lined up to hand over medications and sharps.


In April 2019 there were 8 sites with 1,623 participants and 4,311 pounds collected. Thank you to all our partners who supported these efforts and made this event a success!
