MCPS Community Message: Volunteer Vaccination Process
Montgomery County Public Schools requires school volunteers and partnership agencies to complete certain compliance measures in order to volunteer within our school district.
- Online Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training via their myMCPS Classroom/Canvas account
- Background check (dependent upon the type of volunteer service, per the Volunteers regulation and FAQ)
- COVID-19 Vaccination Attestation - NEW!
Beginning September 20, 2021, volunteers will be required to upload their Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination to remain on the volunteer roster.

Extracurricular Activities Update
Girls Softball Tryouts-Extended & FINAL Day: Tuesday September 21st 2021:
In order to tryout and play this season all girls must have turned in the fully completed middle school student-parent/guardian athletic participation packet, no later than Tuesday. Included here is a link to the packet, if it has not already been fully completed and turned in. *Please note that the Pre-participation Physical Evaluation Medical Eligibility Form (MCPS Form SR-8) MUST be completed and signed by a doctor BEFORE Tuesday September 21st for your student to be eligible to play.* Attendance will be mandatory throughout the season so please consider the schedule when discussing the participation packet with your student. Tryouts have been fun and competitive thus far. We look forward to continuing our great Dolphin softball tradition this fall!
REC Extra Activities Begin September 28th:
Rec Extra Activities will be starting on 9/28. By the end of next week, the clubs list will be posted on the RPMS website under the tab "After School Activities". As soon as permission forms arrive, they will be placed on the front table in the main office and an announcement will be made on the morning show promoting the various clubs.
Intramural Flag Football and Frisbee will start in October:

The RPMS PTA is excited to launch our annual wreath fundraiser!
We have once again teamed up with Naturally Green Vermont to offer holiday wreaths to Rosa Parks MS family and friends. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Rosa Parks MS PTA to help support our programs. Orders must be received by Sunday, October 17th.

Classroom Monitors at RPMS
In order to increase our level of monitoring during lunch periods and hallway transitions we have collaborated with Montgomery County to create two new positions at Rosa Parks Middle School. The Classroom Monitor is a 7 hr. per day position, Monday – Friday at an hourly pay rate of $16.03. A detailed position description is below. This position only reports to work when students are in the building. This is a temporary position and not available for benefits. Classroom Monitors
Job Specific Information: This temporary position is from August 30, 2021 - June 15, 2022. Rate of pay is $16.03 per hour/7 hours per day. This position will be responsible for implementing consistent in-person reinforcement of appropriate student behaviors, monitoring and supporting instruction, and/or other activities for students as prompted in-person teachers.
Summary Description
Under general supervision of the principal, monitors students and provides in-person assistance in classrooms or learning environments. The classroom monitor performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. Assists in maintaining order and discipline, as well as manages the behavior of students. Monitors students throughout the school day, including in the classroom, hallways, during lunch, recess and specials; operates technology, including cameras, learning platforms, and learning tools; performs a variety of administrative and non-instructional duties, as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff.

Student Service Learning Hours
Student Service Learning is a state graduation requirement for all students between grades 6-12. Students learn from volunteering and providing meaningful service to the community. Service learning promotes civic knowledge, civic engagement, academic success, and character and social development in students. SSL will be a graduation requirement for SY22; temporarily established guidelines for select virtual/remote service opportunities will remain in place until the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Contact Mrs. Sarah Lewis with any questions about the program or to submit student verification forms electronically. Students may also submit hard copies of verification forms at school outside of room B116 in the 6th grade hall.
All verification forms for service completed during the summer of 2021 are due by Friday, September 24.

Please note the change that Bus #3320 will be covered by Bus #3319 for arrival and dismissal (AM/PM).
Parent Drop-off / Pick-up Area - please be mindful when dropping off and picking up your child in the school parking lot. To maintain safety and order, it is imperative that all rules are followed:
Pull up to the sign that reads, "passenger drop-off begins here." This allows space for approximately 5-6 cars to drop-off / pick-up students at one time and moves the line quickly
Students should not walk across the parking lot to get to their parent's vehicle
Students must wait in the drop-off / pick-up area for their parent to arrive.
No one should park in the handicap parking spaces unless they have tags granting that permission.
Follow the direction of the security assistant who is guiding the traffic.
Walkers should always walk on the sidewalks and cross the street in the crosswalk.
Bike riders should not ride their bicycles on school grounds. They should walk their bikes to and from the bike racks.
