Many Hands, One Mason!
March 3, 2019
Dear Mason Families,
Happy March! We recently celebrated our 100th day of school and with the blink of an eye our school year is past the halfway point! We would have hit this milestone earlier in the school year but all the ice/snow days pushed it back! Several parents have asked me this week, now that the school year is halfway done, what can we do to make sure our child(ren) is prepared for the reminder of the year? While every child’s needs are different, please make sure you are continuing to the do the following:
- Read with your child for at least 15 minutes everyday. This time is necessary in helping your child critically think about what they are reading and you would be surprised at the conversations that originate from reading together. What a great opportunity for some teachable moments during reading...
- Help your child get to school on time every day. Every minute of instruction time they miss negatively impacts their overall success and creates stress for the learner.
- Continue to help your child understand that academics are important but so if being the “kind” kid. Being kind can take you places in life that sometimes your NWEA score can’t!
- Help your child practice their basic Math facts! Knowing these can really help your child’s confidence!
- Continue to monitor your child’s internet and phone/tablet usage. The internet can be a very scary place for our learners without the proper supervision. We are having more and more issues with apps/technology usage that occurs at home and is then talked about during the school day. Technology issues are occurring more frequently than normal this year with our upper grade level students. Please help us make sure these situations don’t continue to bleed into the school day and cause disruptions in the learning environment. Please be aware that some Apps have age requirements...
Thank you so much for your support and partnering with us to be an advocate for your child(ren),
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal
