HELLO, KIA ORA, KIA ORĀNA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA, NAMASTE, KUMUSTA...
Nai mai, haere mai, welcome to Week 5
Last week we sent information regarding the new communication and reporting system through the 'HERO App'. It is very pleasing to see how many of you have already logged in. We are still ironing out a few aspects at our end and hopefully you find it easy to get linked on at your end. It is an exciting way forward to track your child's progress and current goals. This will now be our Mid and End of Year reporting tool. Please see the note below that was sent last week.
HERO APP FOR FAMILIES
Dear Parents and Caregivers
We are delighted to launch our new communication and reporting system, Hero.
Hero allows schools to build an online environment that reflects our unique context. It enables teachers, students, and families to view and share content anytime, anywhere on any device.
The software is secure, easy to use and brings together all school-related information in one place. Before you upload this please make sure the school has the correct email addresses for you as your child is linked to this.
You will then upload the Hero App on your device.
We are excited about the features that Hero has to offer families. These include the ability for parents and caregivers to:
- view information on your child’s progress and goals
- read school notices sent to the class or groups your child is part of
- respond to school notices such as surveys and trip permission requests
- view school term dates
- view a school calendar of events
- notify the school if your child is absent or late - another platform for you to use
- navigate to other school-related webpages
- customise your account by adding a profile image
- select how you wish to receive notifications
When you have uploaded the HERO App you will see a photo of your child which you click on to access your child's :
- Learning content
- Attendance - summary for every term as well as up to date information for the current term
- Term dates and Events Calendar (linked to our school calendar)
- Report an absence
- Link to the school website and facebook page.
A SAFETY NOTICE
We have been notified by Westend School that one of their children was approached by a member of the public as they have walked home from school on College Street. This person, although on foot, offered the child a “lift” home. Our West End School child did a great job handling the situation and told this person “no” and then alerted adults as soon as possible.
The school has worked closely with NZ Police on the matter.
This is a timely reminder for us as a school and as parents to remind children to know what to do if this should happen to them.
We have staff in the morning and afternoon at the front gate so that all children are safe.
PARKING AT THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL
As you are aware parking on Yellow lines is illegal. Yesterday we had a number of cars parked illegally on these lines and it made things very hard for our patrollers and staff. Please help us to keep everyone safe at these busy times.
SAFETY CROSSING THE ROAD
Please use the Crossing in the morning and afternoon to get your child across the road. It is teaching your child how to be safe. Again yesterday we had parents call out to their child and they ran across the road - and again there was a very close incident. We take your child's safety very seriously.
A REMINDER
A reminder to please make arrangements to have your children picked up on time (2.55pm) after school. We have some children who are waiting up to 45 minutes to be picked up. Most of the staff have training and meetings after school from 3.15-5pm so we are not in a position to supervise your children. Thank you for your understanding.
HEALTHY FOOD IN YOUR CHILD'S LUNCHBOX AND A WATER BOTTLE EACH DAY
Thank you so much for your support with this. We have certainly noticed a wonderful improvement.
