The CMS Scoop
The Best Middle School in the Universe!
Volume 14, Number 17 - April 6, 2020
Week of April 6th
CMS Families,
Even in our second week, all of us are still learning how to get it all done. Our teachers have been working hard to create a schedule and we begin next week with "office hours." Every teacher will email you on Monday mornings with information for the week. They will let you know about upcoming lessons, assignments and their office hours. Our teachers will be available for questions via zoom. Students can zoom in and out for any help they may need. Teachers will also be reaching out to their advisory students on Mondays to check in with them about any questions they may have. Although our teachers will have office hours, please also feel free to email them as they are checking email throughout the day. Please make sure you access the link below labeled "CMS On-Line Learning Plan for Parents/Students" for details.
We will be contacting parents Monday for those that indicated to us that you did not have a device at home. Our hope is that by the end of the week, most of our students have devices. We will launch new lessons on April 13th so it will be very important for students to join their teacher's google classroom and get connected with them.
Our work this coming week continues to include work that doesn't have to be done in front of a computer. You can access this information from your phone/email. Teachers will let you know how they can connect to our students so they can see "evidence of learning." The Home Learning Site will be included in all teacher emails and they will provide more information.
As we settle into our new online learning platform, it is important for us to remember our student code of conduct still applies. Our teachers will take time to review expectations but we would highly encourage you to also reiterate the importance of digital citizenship these next several weeks. We want to make sure our students are still following The Cougar Way and are respecting people, property and learning. Thank you so much for your help.
We will begin Chapa Chatter Live - Zoom Edition beginning Monday! We will have CC Live daily and will feature two CMS teachers and two students. Please make sure you take some time and watch us at 8:45 daily. We look forward to your comments!
Also as a reminder, we do not have school Friday or Monday. Our students will have a 4 day weekend. Our goal this week is patience and peace. We have to be patient with each other and be at peace with what is happening in our lives.
Please also utilize the Meals to go provided by the district. As it gets difficult to go to the store, please utilize this service! Our middle school kids eat a TON and any little bit helps. Remember this is for ALL kids and they must be in the car to receive a meal.
We are all working virtually. We have laptops and are checking email all day, so please feel free to email any of us for questions. We are here for you.
Take care and know that we love our CMS Families!!!
We are Chapa Middle School! We are Cougar Pride!
Attention 8th Grade Parents
Students will receive this information in advisory on April 20th once we know most students should have devices. Meanwhile, they can login and check their course selection.
Students Will:
View their Student Self Serve portal “4 Year Plan” to review next years course selections
Respond to google form https://forms.gle/7jtfaViwTSscsU4v8
DUE FRIDAY
Directions for students:
Log into your student self serve (SSS) portal. There’s a new tab labeled “4 year plan”. Your requested courses will be listed in one of the boxes. They are labeled as Pre-High School, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4
These are the courses your counselor entered based on your course request sheet
Make sure you have a total of 7 credits for classes. Be mindful of semester duration classes that only count as half of a class. Look for any course numbers with a 2 or 3 after the decimal (period) indicating the class is multiple periods long (Blocked)
Changes need to be “one for one” to ensure you still have 7 classes.
Confirm your class choices or request changes with the google form above.
It’s important to know once school begins in August, Counselors will only correct errors or add a required class that is needed for graduation.
