Oakbrook Dolphins Family Update

June 2021

Principal's Message

Oh my goodness what a year. Our community of parents and teachers pulling through is something to boast about for years. My friends are already tired of hearing it from me :) You and your family did an immediate hard pivot with our teachers, and we made it! We made it through the huge benefits and drawbacks of Distance Learning, schedule changes, pick ups and drop offs, social distancing, tech successes and failures, adult screen ADHD (mine) and the loss of social connection with the struggle to find other ways for authentic communication. We have had to transform education (and art)--and we will be leaping forward with fond and not so fond memories of 2019-2021! There is much we have learned that we will be able to incorporate into the traditions of education. It will be fun!!!

What will also be soooo fun is to enjoy our new building! The arts will finally be able to be in person!!! We are really looking forward to theater and dance in person!! We are planning a short flashy piece of theater for the ribbon cutting of the new building! We are super excited. We are hoping to perform at the end of September, but the building will be able to be used when school starts. We already have our performances planned for next year and the ink isn't even dry on this one! You can tell we are ready to get back together.

We hope you all have a luscious summer full of whatever you want. We look forward very much to seeing you all on August 18, 8:05 warning bell, (crossing fingers that the new coating on the yard will be ready) and 2:15 dismissal with recess, lunch and lots of learning and fun all together!! See you then!!

We are excited to see you for summer school. It will be short but intense. See the summer school box for more info. We will be using the front entrance, no need to go around. Parents can pick up and drop off from there. We will still be adhering to social distancing rules, MASKS, and avoiding crossing of classroom "bubbles."

Kindergarten: PLEASE continue to enter through the back gate on the kinder playground. All other students will use the front entrance of the school.

Don't forget to check out pictures of what we are doing at school and watch our building go up!! on Twitter, follow us @Oakbrookacadart !

We are very excited about summer school. Mr. Tierney will be teaching Kindergarten (that will be adorable--who knows what trouble those guys are going to get into--science is his thing) Ms. Mondlock will be teaching a 1/2 combination, Ms. Quinton will be teaching a 2/3 and Mrs. Engell will be teaching a 3/4. Ms. Quarry will be teaching the 5th, and Mrs. Vogelgesang with Mrs. Powell will be teaching and rotating 6th, 7th and 8th. We will all be working on the critical life skills of Inference (with Main Idea and supporting details as needed) and writing. In math we will be working with groups of ten and patterns as needed in their grade levels to drive in number sense. We will be having art as well and Mrs. Ellis will be concentrating on inference as well--we figure humans have been trying to figure out the Mona Lisa for a hundred years! Art, music and theater are perfect for inference, so they will be included in the curriculum. Lunch will be in a bag like these last weeks and recesses will remain in small groups, social distancing and masks will be a rule. It will be fun! The student day is 8:30-11:30, lunch pick-up on the way out.

June 14-17, Friday off, June 21-24, Friday off.
