Montessori Monthly
December 1, 2017
Hard to believe it's December!
I've included information from Mrs. Ayers, Mrs. Shoemaker, and Mrs. Farlee for this month's newsletter.
Enjoy this nice weather and the holidays (before both are gone!) with our friends and family.

Physical Education Corner--From Mrs. Ayers
Healthy Body, Healthy Mind
Physical activity is vital to kids. It helps them have stronger bones and muscles, and fends off obesity. Physical activity also helps their growing brains. It has been proven to help with concentration and memory. Studies have also shown that students who are more physically active score better on standardize tests.
Children should be active at least 60 minutes a day. This does not mean that it has to be 60 minutes in a row. Recess, physical education, and brain breaks give them time to be physically active during the day at school. But it isn't enough. They need to do things outside of school also. There are many different ways to get your child up and moving. So go out and enjoy some time with your children.
Third Grade Gives Thanks
Third Grade News
By Mrs. Shoemaker
We can’t believe that it is already the second quarter of school. The third graders are a terrific group of students. They work hard each day to complete their contract work. We are studying the continents of the world. So far we have studied North America, South America, and currently, Asia. They do such nice work on their Montessori puzzle maps.We were fortunate to have a guest speaker to tell about the country of China.
In math, the third graders are working hard on multiplication, and multi-digit multiplication. Division is next! With the Thanksgiving holiday, the third graders are telling about the things that they are thankful for.

Ways to Help Your Child Learn at Home
Even though we are not sending traditional homework home this year, we still want you to be helping your child learn at home.
Check out the link below; it provides fun ideas to help your child learn and make the most of your family time together. Although the text says these are ways to help your child prepare for Kindergarten, I think you can use many of these ideas with any elementary-aged child!
