Leadership Team message from Bhairavi
Mā te whiritahi, ka whakatutuki ai ngā pūmanawa ā tāngata
Together weaving the realisation of potential
Tēnā koutou katoa,
On behalf of the Edendale kaimahi/staff, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for the ongoing support that they have shown to our school. Your commitment to our school is greatly appreciated, and we are extremely grateful for the trust that you have placed in us. When families and schools work together, we create an environment that is conducive to academic success and personal growth.
Last week Junky Monkeys, a roadshow, visited Edendale on Friday, 17th March. It was a day filled with creativity and thinking outside the box for our ākonga/learners. The educators came with ample materials - a wide range of ‘large loose parts’ otherwise intended for the landfill for our children to explore, design and construct their own play spaces. It was very encouraging to see our Akoranga and Atawhai tamariki/children engaged and thoroughly enjoying their time working collaboratively and communicating with each other, reflecting our school values. This experience reaffirms our belief in how children learn and develop life skills through intentional and thoughtful play. It reminds me of the quote from Lev Vygotsky, a well-known psychologist, “What the child is able to do in collaboration today, he will be able to do independently tomorrow.”
This reminds us of how important it is for our children to experience thoughtful and engaging activities to tickle their imagination and creativity. Through these authentic experiences, children can explore, experiment, discover, and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways. It encourages students to engage in flexible and higher-level thinking processes. It often results in more profound levels of student engagement in learning. Well-planned and thoughtful experiences support the development of interpersonal skills, e.g., cooperation, negotiation, leadership, empathy, active listening, and compromise and intrapersonal skills, such as self-esteem, motivation, resilience, concentration, persistence, and time management.
Mā te pohewa mā te auaha hoki, ka whakapuaki ngā kura e huna ana.
With imagination and creativity, a hidden jewel can be revealed.
Stay well, stay safe and be kind.
Ngā mihi
