CHS Staff Bulletin

In The Know
January 6th Tech PD - I know we are pretty much into winter break, but hoping folks will take a peak at their email! It appears that there are quite a few folks only signing up for one PD session on January 6th. There are actually two session times - 8:00 to 9:10 and 9:20 to 10:30. Certified staff should be enrolling in a session for each time slot - attending two workshops that morning. I don't know that this information was conveyed clearly in the original email so I have chosen to provide this helpful reminder.
FREE Flu shots next week. It’s a particularly bad flu season this year and the flu vaccine isn’t perfect but it’ll minimize the symptoms. On January 6th & 7th, Nova Urgent Care, located at 4040 West 11th, is giving away free flu shots all day! Bring a friend, your family, a neighbor, anyone who has yet to receive their flu shot this season. This event is a perfect opportunity to get to know the providers and staff at the clinic and protect yourself during this particularly aggressive flu season. They are open from 8 AM to 8 PM and there won't be a cap on the number of flu shots we're giving away! Come by on your lunch break, after work or between errands and protect yourself and others by getting your flu shot. **The free flu shots are preservative-free, quadrivalent influenza shots and not 65+ flu shots.”
Student Discipline - On January 6th when we return to school we will be engaged in a staff meeting (2-4pm) that addresses concerns and needs surrounding student discipline. We have invited our Campus Monitors to this meeting and will be engaged in focus groups to develop and respond to an action plan for getting and keeping students in class, reviewing the structure for consequences, grounding our selves in the values of positive behavior supports restorative justice, and accountability. We will also review group agreements that support systems of accountability by all stakeholders in order to better serve our teacher and student needs.
Student/Family Communication - I am impressed with how many staff use Remind to communicate with students. It is an exceptional method for reaching students about school events, projects, homework, etc. In the last calendar year (2019) we had 33 teachers and 670 students and parents actively used Remind to communicate. Since the beginning of the school year, 27317 Remind messages have been delivered across our community, including 22673 announcements and two-way conversations. This is crazy impressive. This is also testament to how we can communicate without having student numbers in our phones. When you have student contact information in your phone you compromise your professionalism. This would get called out if you we're ever accused of doing something erroneously. Using Remind as a platform helps keeps students out of your phone contacts. If you have student numbers in your phone list please discontinue this practice as a manner of protecting yourself.

Kudos
Thank you Elizabeth Henderson and Allison Harn for organizing a wonderful staff social at Claim 52. It was well attended and a lot of fun. It is great to see significant other and spouses and enjoy hanging out of school with you. What a great climate boost right before break. My bucket was full when I left. Thank you for your willingness to do this.
Thank you Casandra Kamens for organizing the Wheel of Fortune activity. Again, another excellent climate boost for staff on what is typically a wild week in schools. Thursday exemplifies that statement. Your attention to keeping staff engaged and positive is well noted and appreciated. Attached are some of the pictures and videos that have come in. They are in this google folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15oR80O_owobKWBTM_gV3XQgMPkzH0Bzz?usp=sharing
Thank you to our amazing parents who shared the joy of the holiday season and their appreciation for staff this last Tuesday. The spread and arrangement of food was wonderful and greatly appreciated by all staff. Thank you so much for caring for our staff and making them feel respected and cared for.
