2014 Graduate Joins Allen Co. Soil & Water Conservation District

Jarrod Wehinger began working for the Allen Soil & Water Conservation District in March as a District Technician. He'll assist the H20hio Program which was put in place to limit phosphorus runoff to Lake Erie. Growing up, he spent much of his time hunting and being outdoors. This sparked his interest in wildlife and conservation. He graduated from Heidelberg Univ. in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Minor in Biology. Part of his studies focused on algae blooms on Lake Erie. In a recent article in the SWCD newsletter, Jarrod said he "is excited to begin working with Allen SWCD and local farmers to help conserve the land." Congratulations, Jarrod!

1997 Graduate Director of Business Affairs at West Ohio Food Bank

Elida alum Wayne Steed is doing great things with the West Ohio Food Bank. He has worked there for the past four years and due to the pandemic impact on communities, the need for food has never been greater. Wayne helps coordinate food distributions in the region and several recently here in Elida.

The food bank is assisted by the Ohio National Guard and with their help, they brought nearly 50,000 lbs. of food to the Fieldhouse on Thursday, Sept. 3, to help 300 families!

Wayne is busy at Elida, having coached youth baseball and basketball, his children attend Elida, too. Thanks for all you do for Elida, Wayne! Photo from the distribution below.

Elida Students Leave a Great Impression with Veteran

Lori Burtch, science teacher at the high school, was speaking recently with a Vietnam Veteran, Bob Maurer. When he discovered that she taught at Elida High School, he shared a story about meeting a group of Elida students years ago. He was so impressed with this group of young students that he mailed a picture of the students that he has kept. The picture was a group of our current seniors from their Washington DC trip in the Spring of 2017. We are always proud to hear these reports of our students representing Elida so well. Great job, Bulldogs! #elidapride
