Hiking Hogs Back Mountain
In August of 2015 I had the blessing of being able to go to Marquette, Michigan. We went multiple places and I made a lot of new memories. One of the things we did was hike Hogs Back Mountain. Hogs Back Mountain has a lot of trees covering it so if you saw it you might have just thought it was an enormous hill with a bit of stone at the top. About five minutes in we saw a small tan and green snake that just slithered off and paid no attention to us. Then about a third of the way up the mountain, there was a small creek that had very cold, good tasting water, so I decided to stop to fill up my water bottle. To say that I wasn’t tired at this point would be a lie. When we were almost to the top more rocks started appearing. We had to climb over some of them which were scalding hot. When we finally made it to the top of the mountain we decided to make dinner reservations and surprisingly we had very good cell service. Hiking back down the mountain was much easier. Surprisingly, it only took about half of the time as well. I would definitely do it again.
Jumping off of Black Rock and Bridges
On the second day of our vacation, we went to jump off of Black Rock. The rock is a reddish-brown mixed with black, so as you can tell the name is a little deceiving. When we arrived we took a small trail on the edge of a cliff. As we got a little further, we finally reached Black Rock. It was very uneven and about a 40 foot walk to where we were going to jump. The water was very clear and blue. It was absolutely breathtaking. We saw other people jumping while getting ready to jump and the sound of their spash as the water engulfed them. To stop and think about what I was doing would have made it harder to jump. My friend and I decided to just jump and not think about it. Into the water we were sent. As we hit the water it was cold, but not unbearable. Shockingly, I think that climbing out was the hardest part because there is no specific path and you had to find your own footholds. However, I would definitely do it again.
My Favorite Restaurants to Eat At
I have a lot of restaurants that I can’t wait to go back and visit in Marquette. It was hard to decide what to eat, as there were so many options. We went to a restaurant down town, a few blocks from our hotel, and my friend and I shared flat bread pizza. It was delicious. However, I have two restaurants that are my favorite. The first is L’ Attitudes, I ordered a burger and it was to die for. It was very juicy and well cooked. To see the view of Lake Superior while eating was the cherry on top. Lastly, my other favorite restaurant is a mexican restaurant above L’ Attitudes. Being hungry, I ordered two chimichanga suezas, which are similar to burritos and are topped with cheese. They were excellent, and I could tell other people thought the same as there was over a 45 minute wait.
