Oh! The Places You'll Go!

2015-2016 LVES Weekly Staff Newsletter

Week of May 16 - May 20, 2016

Thank you

Thank you for being very patient, flexible and supportive this week as we closed the book on this year's testing season! It takes a village to make testing days run smoothly.

We are back to our regularly scheduled days of learning, which include Eric and I getting back into classrooms and lunch duty:-) I have really missed being in classrooms!

2016-2017 Theme

It was a close race, but the 2016-2017 theme is....

We only have 2 more weeks of PLC this school year (no PLC the last week of school). Next week we will have PLC Monday - Thursday, but not Friday due to the Ocean Week Opening Ceremony.

In PLC we will talk about the APA data and what students are doing well on and what needs to be adjusted in the math snapshots and unit organizers.

3rd and 4th Grade Field Day is Friday

Please make sure that students have a signed permission slip for Friday's Field Day events. It's also a good idea to have students bring extra water to take with them to the track. I've reminded parents to have their student apply sunscreen, wear a hat, tennis shoes and dress-code appropriate, comfortable clothes. Eric and I will be over there to help with stations and monitoring.

Since Patty and Heather will be at the track helping with Field Day, there will be no specials on Friday. K-2 teachers you can schedule in two recesses due to not having specials that day.

Your contract should have come to you via email from Applitracks. Joy Smith sent directions earlier today on how to sign your contracts. You will not receive a hard copy of your contract this year to sign, so you will need to sign through Applitracks. All contracts must be received on or before May 20th.

Please let me know if you have any questions:-)

End of Year Parties

All EOY parties will need to be held on the last day of school, since that is one of our 3 party days. The exception would be afternoon PPCD and Pre-K classes since they will not have class on early release days. Team leaders - please email your grade level's party time to Christine and Veronica.

A couple of reminders when administering EOY DRAs:

  • In order to get an accurate reading level, please follow all of the directions in the DRA manual or DRA Quick Reference sheet that Joanne sent out earlier.
  • When you enter the data into Eduphoria, please enter the student's INDEPENDENT level (not Instructional or Frustrational level).

Thank you for your help in keeping the DRAs consistent and accurate! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask:-)

Student Placement Cards

Keep working on those blue and pink placement cards:-) 3rd and 4th grade teachers - please put benchmark scores for STAAR scores since we won't get those back before we start placing students in classes.

Comal ISD Curriculum Feedback

Don't forget to take a couple of minutes to complete the feedback on the Comal ISD curriculum documents. Dr. Lofton sent out an email earlier today with a link to the survey. Thank you for providing feedback on the documents that we used as a resource:-)

Spring Time Reminders

Still going to keep this in here until the end...

Spring has sprung, and we are in the home stretch, so let's end strong!

Teachers need to be spread out all over the playground during recess for optimal recess coverage. Please make sure that teachers are posted at the different locations that team leaders turned in to me at the beginning of the year.

Warmer weather means students are dressing in shorts, skirts and tank tops. Please make sure that you are enforcing the dress code with your students. Shorts/skirts must be fingertip length, and tank tops are permitted. Halter tops, spaghetti straps and strapless tops are not permitted. If a student is out of dress code, please have them go to the nurse to change. I have put dress code reminders in the parent newsletter as well.

Learning is still occurring until 11:30 on June 2nd, so make sure that you are sticking to your regular schedule throughout the day. May is pretty packed with activities!
