Prestons Post
Term 4, Week 6
Principal's Message
Grade Cohort Bubbles
Although we have completely separate playground areas for each grade cohort bubble, we have decided to split the break times from next week. This will allow us to keep each grade cohort bubble separate at all times and minimise opportunities to mix across grades.
Morning drop off
Could I please remind all families that school supervision does not start until 8.30am. Many students are being dropped at the gates before this time. This is very unsafe and we remind parents that they must stay with their child (and remain in their car if possible) until the bell goes and gates are opened at 8.30am.
Afternoon pick up
A big thank you to everyone who is supporting us with our staggered dismissal system. Please remember to let your child know which gate they need to use in the afternoon. Just a few reminders:
- Gate 1 Kiss and Ride: Dismissal from 2.40pm, parents and carers must remain in their car and join the Kiss and Ride line. Children will be called as you pull up to the Kiss and Ride zone.
- Gate 2 Pick up: 3pm dismissal. Parents and carers must socially distance while waiting outside the gate for their child.
- Gate 3 Bus and Crossing: 3pm dismissal. Gate children will sit in grade cohort bubbles inside the school gates until their bus arrives. Crossing and pick up children will be dismissed as their parents arrive. Parents and carers ust socially distance if waiting outside the gate for their child.
- Gate 4 Pick up: 2.50pm dismissal. Children will wait in grade cohort bubble groups and be called to the gate as their parents arrive. Parents and carers must socially distance while waiting outside the gate for their child.
End of year celebrations
We are still planning all of our exciting end of year celebrations, including presentation days, Year 6 farewell and end of year wellbeing fun days. We need to ensure that we follow all department guidelines so these will look slightly different to past years. Please stay tuned to our facebook page and newsletter for further details.
Learning at Prestons
Our teachers have been interviewing students, parents and teachers to determine the learner qualities that are most valued in our school. We are combining this information with current research to come up with our Prestons Public School Learning Dispositions. These will be shared over the coming weeks and students and teachers will be working on building these qualities into the mindframes of all of our students.
Remembrance Day
Our school leaders showed great respect as they led our Remembrance day ceremony on Thursday this week. The ceremony was held via Zoom and all classes joined in and paid their respect. We were very proud of all students in our school.
Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning at school.

Year 7 Placement in a Selective High School in 2023 (Year 5 Students 2021)
Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic standard. Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.
Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 10 March 2022.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2023, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online are available at
The application website opens at that link on 19 October 2021 and closes on 17 November 2021. You must apply before the closing date.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you can apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team for assistance on 1300 880 367.
TO APPLY YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER AND THEN APPLY THROUGH THE HIGH PERFORMING STUDENTS WEBSITE:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7
You must submit only ONE application for each student.
Classroom Chat with 2 Leopards
WOW! What an incredible term of learning we have had already! Year 2 have been busy catching up with our friends since being back at school, having fun and getting back into the swing of learning in the classroom. We have been busy exploring imaginative texts as part of The Daily 5, learning how to write an orientation, build a character profile and ‘set the scene’ using creative language choices. We definitely have some very talented authors in our building!
All of the Year 2 teachers and I are incredibly proud of the dedication and resilience our students have demonstrated this past semester. During our time at home many of us discovered hidden talents, expressed our creativity, gained new hobbies and learnt lots of new things about ourselves. It was so wonderful to learn, grow and develop these fantastic skills during home learning and even more exciting that we are now able to share our achievements in person.
I would like to thank our students and families for your strength, positivity, and resilience. We can’t wait to have a fabulous rest of Term 4.
Classroom Chat with 5 Rosellas
5 Rosellas have been doing amazingly this past week and are really settling back in with school! We have been reading the book "Malala: My Story of Standing up for Girls' Rights" and learning all about the amazing things Malala Yousafzai has done. For writing we have been focusing on the different types of genre in texts and how to recognise them. In maths, we've been learning about coordinates and how to read maps!
