Principal's Message
And, just like that, March is over! I can honestly say, this year is flying by!
Our character trait was HONESTY this month, and our wonderful Librarian, Mrs Landau, read some fabulous books to reinforce the importance of honesty to our students. A few of her favorites are Pig the Fibber by Aaron Blabey, The Honest to Goodness Truth by Patricia McKissack and Tell the Truth BB Wolf by Judy Sierra.
Mrs Landau has also been busy updating our website with a Book Review tab. Participating students read books and create book reports for Mrs Landau to share with families. Reports can also be seen in person in the library. We are grateful to all the students willing to share their thoughts and recommendations so others can also enjoy a great book!
The Library is a pretty magical place, and next week, it will be bursting with even more suspense, comedy and excitement than usual. We are so happy to be hosting an in-person book fair! Families may shop online (see the info below under the PTO section) or with their students at Hallinan:
- Monday, 4/4 from 2:40 to 4 pm

Join the fun and read a good book!

Hallinan Book Fair: Reminder - Next week (April 4 – 8) is our Spring Book Fair! Parents and Students will be able to shop the fair in the library (April 4 - 8) and online (April 1 - 14) via our Scholastic Home Page (https://www.scholastic.com/bf/hallinan). The library will be open for student shopping before school. In addition, parents can join students in the library to shop during their class library time and after school until 4 pm Monday and Tuesday and until 8 pm on Wednesday! Lastly, we will be open during student conferences Thursday and Friday. Please see the flyer below for details.
All money earned at this PTO-sponsored event goes back to our library. It will be a busy and fun-filled time that can only operate smoothly with the help of many wonderful volunteers. Shifts as short as 2 hours are available - we hope you will join us as a shopper and a volunteer! We are especially in need of volunteers Monday - Wednesday to cover class library times. You can sign up to volunteer here: Book Fair Sign-Up Genius
Finally, in addition to the visiting the Book Fair, students can show their Hallinan Spirit by participating in the following activities next week:
- Monday, April 4 – Clean out your bookshelves and bring your gently used books in to DONATE to H.O.P.E.S. Used Book Drive. Bins will be located in the vestibule and near the entrance of the book fair. All collected Books will be donated to the Children's Book Bank.
- Tuesday, April 5 – 1,2,3,4…we declare a PENNY WAR (yes, the Penny War is returning too!). Bring in your pennies or spare change. All money collected goes to the library. The classroom that collects the most money will earn their teacher a free book and a class set of bookmarks.
- Wednesday, April 6 – Finish the week strong and show how proud you are to be a Hallinan Hawk by wearing your HALLINAN SPIRIT WEAR (or any blue shirt). We still have a few discounted Hallinan t-shirts that will be available to purchase (cash or check only) at the book fair for $5 each!

The LOSD CARES event is coming up next Tuesday, April 5, 12-1 p.m. LOSD CARES is a Connection and Resilience in Education Series hosted by the LOSD Wellness team of school counselors, social workers and psychologists. Working with community mental health partners, LOSD hosts these workshops for parents and guardians to support, inform and empower families on issues surrounding mental health.
Next week's workshop "Having Hope During Hard Times: Tools for Families to Buffer Stressors" is being hosted via a Zoom Webinar during the "lunch hour" as that time was our most well attended during last year's series. The session will be recorded and shared for those who are unable to attend it during the live time.

Oregon State Assessment Opt-Out Form

Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at your child’s school. Please note the submission deadlines listed on the form. Meeting the deadline will help the school with planning and preparation. If you have questions or want more information about state assessments, please contact your child’s principal or teacher(s).
