6th Grade Wows Final Product Presentation!

Hello Families!

I just want to extend a huge thank you to all of you for making sure your child arrived to city hall on time and well dressed. For those of you unable to attend this evening, the kids did a fantastic job. They were well rehearsed and each of them executed their portion of the presentation very well. I just wanted to share a few things that really stuck out to me.

1. The chair of commission stated that we presented ideas that they had never thought of. To me this was huge, because it means our students provided the city an authentic service.

2. The housing advisor to the governor was in attendance and was highly impressed by both the content that the students presented as well as their professionalism. He received a copy of their speeches, so perhaps the governor will put eyes on our students' work.

3. An affordable housing expert, and assistant city manager informed me afterwards that he came to this presentation because he thought it would be "cute." He was then immediately blown away at the complexity and diversity of ideas that our students presented. He had no idea that 6th graders were capable of this sort of work (clearly he's never been to a PPCS final product before).

4. Students answering questions off-the-cuff can go either way, and from a teacher perspective I was highly impressed at the answers our students gave the commissioners during the Q&A after the presentation. I mean it, I've been teaching this age group for ten years now and that was about as good as it gets for a group of 6th graders. :)

So a BIG round of applause for our 6th Crew!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to PPCS 6th grade student, Oliver Blood! Oliver ranked within the top 4 at the regional MATHCOUNTS competition and is invited to attend the state competition in Boise on March 12th!!
