WE MISS ALL OF YOU!

Dear OCS & SCG Parents,

March 28, 2020:

I hope you all had a wonderful Week 1 of distance learning! I understand the adjustment this is for all of us. There are growing pains and learning curves for students, families, and staff. I have no doubt it will get easier as we go! Please take it one step at a time. The goal is for students to have about 2-2.5 hours of academics each day. Do what you can, and please don't stress. If there is anything we can do to help, please reach out. I am happy to walk through technology issues, computer glitches, or creating a family schedule.

To help us know what your needs are as a community, please take a minute to provide feedback on how we can improve our online learning platform:

I appreciate everyone's support, understanding, and willingness to be patient. You are welcome to call me anytime through this process! I have setup a GoogleVoice account that will go directly to my cell: 831.531.7567. You are welcome to call me anytime!

We will have one more day for materials pickup. If you did not come this past Monday or Wednesday, please come to school on Monday March 30th between 10am and noon. Please remain outside the office and I will bring you any materials your teacher has waiting for you.

Never before has the term "it takes a village" been more accurate than now. Our SCG community is strong, supportive, kind and resilient. Together, we will weather this storm.

Humbly yours,

Trisha Lee

Past Memos From Principal Lee

March 23, 2020:

Together, we are embarking into new territory with our recent school closures. The staff at Opal Cliffs School and Santa Cruz Gardens and in the Soquel Union Elementary School District are committed to supporting our students and parents during our social (physical) distancing efforts as a community. Our focus in providing you with daily lessons and activities is to help support our students as they review content, maintain key skills they already possess, introduce new content and to provide you with activities aligned with what they would typically do in their classrooms.

This newsletter was developed to serve as a "Learning Hub" of information so that there is a continuity of learning taking place during social (physical) distancing period and while schools in the SUESD are closed. With your support, we hope to maintain a sense of community that is so much a part of our identity as a school at Opal Cliffs and Santa Cruz Gardens.

While all activities and guidelines were developed by our outstanding OCS and SCG staffs, we understand that if your child experiences any frustration, it is perfectly fine to have them pause on the activity and reach out to their teacher. Our staff will continue to work during our regular work hours of 8:00 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday.

If your child receives additional services, such as RSP, speech therapy, and/or occupational therapy, you will be hearing from your child's service providers as it is important to us that you can access information about how to keep your child engaged in activities that will support their development in these areas.

We appreciate your partnership as we navigate this unknown territory together. Please feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns along the way.

Humbly yours,

Principal Trisha Lee
