SANTA CRUZ PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM:
Due to the uncertainty ahead of us this year, the SCPL will have many virtual programs and events online. Kids (and adults!) can sign up for the program on Beanstack. Participants can read and complete some fun activities to earn online badges and raffle tickets. Some lucky participants will win gift cards to local merchants. If students participated in our Summer Reading Program last year they will already have a Beanstack account and can contact the SCPL through their website if they don't remember their username or password. SCPL buildings may be closed through the summer, but they hope to have curbside pickup for books.

MESSAGE FROM OUR HSC:
Dear Santa Cruz Gardens Community,
We hope you all are safe and well. The school year is coming to a close and we want to give you a status report of HSC and what we have to look forward to for the next school year.
Since mid-March, HSC activities have been cancelled including: the auction, walk-a-thon, dance program, after-school enrichment, and art docent. Life Lab has been the one program we have continued during distance learning.
HSC has decided to not vote on funding for the next school year as we don't know what that will look like. The one exception is funding for Ms. Jade's position. During our last general meeting in April, we voted to continue the Life Lab and Science Enrichment Program that is taught by Ms. Jade. (Minutes of April meeting here). The April meeting was done via video conferencing to observe physical distancing rules. That seemed to work out well and resulted in increased participation. Perhaps this format will continue in the future.
Fortunately, our system of paying-it-forward is going to benefit us as we have sufficient funds to operate for the 2020-21 school year. There is enough to fund the programs next year as we have this year. But the decisions regarding which programs we continue and at what amount will be made in the fall when we know what school will be like and when a new HSC board is elected.
The terms for all the current HSC board members were set to expire at the end of this school year (June 2020) but we have agreed to stay on until the first meeting in the next school year (likely September) to get us through the summer and get things going for the 2020-21 school year. We will NEED TO VOTE in the new board at that meeting and pass the baton to a new group of leaders for HSC. Please reach out to any board member if you want to get more involved. Our school relies on parent support for many of the learning activities our students love most. We need your help to continue this critical role.
HSC will not hold any more meetings this school year. We hope you all have a good summer. Please look for communication from us in August. We can be reached by email (scgardenshomeandschool@gmail.com) with questions or comments.
April 22, 2020 General Meeting Minutes
