Bear Bulletin
Maire Newsletter October 15th edition
Dear Maire Families,
What makes Maire stand out is the commitment to cultivating and celebrating community. We do it on a daily basis within our classrooms. We look for ways to build relationships with our students and partner with parents in their educational journey here at Maire. Parent-Teacher Conferences was one example of the focus on community. We rely on strong relationships with parents to ensure we are meeting the needs of each student. Thank you for your support and for your commitment to making a great school year.
Next week on Friday is our Fun Run. This outdoor event is another great example of a community coming together. We celebrate raising funds to support our PTO and school, and we celebrate with a fun event that makes a moment special for our students. This event is not possible without a supportive parent base, a creative and driven PTO, and energetic teachers to make this event a success. Of course, the students are at the heart of it all, the reason we do what we do. We can’t wait to celebrate with the kids, the staff, and the community at our Fun Run on Friday, October 22nd from 2:00-3:30pm.
Sincerely,
Ryan Francis
proud Principal of Maire

Notes from the Office
- Fall temperatures can fluctuate drastically throughout the day. All students are eating lunch outside, and have recess twice a day. Please dress the students in layers, so that they can be comfortable for any temperature shifts.
- As the weather cools down, our traffic in the lot picks up. Please do not park in our circle and get out of your car to assist with your child. If they are not capable of using the drop off/pick up lane, parents are encouraged to park in the lot.
- Please label all of your student's belongings. Our lost & found is full! If items are labeled, we can get them back to their owner more quickly.
Maire Elementary 2021 Superhero Fun Run next week
The Maire Elementary 2021 Superhero Fun Run, presented by Grosse Point Orthodontics, will be held next Friday, October 22. We have had an outstanding response from our Maire community so far – and now we hit the home stretch for fundraising.
This morning we hit the $25,000 stretch goal and we still have a week to go.
We have one more raffle for next week, to encourage us to push to our fundraising goals!
More Maire swag has arrived this week, including Maire Bear caps. Students, teachers and parents taking part will also get a 2021 Fun Run t-shirt next week. The team planning the run is putting together a fun and exciting event – so come along, if you can, to cheer on the runners.
Thank you to everyone for helping the kids, register, raise funds and make this event a SUPER success!
A big thank you to our new Weekly Raffle sponsor, Pointe Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine!
The 2021 Maire Superhero Fun Run is brought to you by Grosse Pointe Orthodontics. We also thank other Bear Den sponsors Linnell & Associates, GTS, @properties and Hill Mortgage.

- Students will come dressed in their costumes to start the day at school
- Class celebrations are limited to just 2 parents who are organizing the fun (district policy due to Covid)
- Students are not permitted to wear halloween masks that cover their head/face
- Blood and weapons are not permitted due to our age of students in the building
Community Diversity Event
All GPPSS parents are invited to join our Communities United in Diversity group and participate in an ongoing conversation about topics related to diversity.
Our first meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gym at Defer Elementary School, 15425 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe Park.
Please join Deputy Superintendent Roy Bishop, Defer Principal Lisa Rheaume, and facilitator Ginni Winters, school culture and equity consultant with Wayne RESA, as we discuss and reflect upon real situations our students are encountering on a daily basis and how we create awareness and appreciation of diversity in our community.
Ms. Winters has supported our efforts for many years and we welcome her back to GPPSS as she helps us to continue to value and embrace diversity in our school district. Please see the GPPSS Diversity Flyer for more information and future dates of meetings.
