Coming Soon...
Although this has been the main source for Van Alstyne High School news recently, the Newsletter class is making the switch to SNOSites. We believe that having a school news website is essential to student development, as it will be 100% student-run.
Students will report on stories happening throughout the year, interview multiple subjects, and constantly update the website for relevant news geared towards Van Alstyne High School.
We are extremely eager to make this change but want it done right. That means learning to transition to a more journalistic-style of writing, learning to interview, learning social media, and much more.
Everyone that is currently signed up for the newsletter will still receive the link from Mr. Johnson to our new SNO site every Friday. If you have any story ideas that you want covered, please email Mr. Campbell at MCampbell@VanAlstyneisd.org
School Song Competition
Next Friday, September 1, all fourth period classes will compete in the annual School Song Sing Off.
Last year there were Ukuleles and dances. This year, students are expected to bring their all, as the winning class gets a pizza party.

Mandatory Student Athlete Volunteer Policy
Beginning the 2017-18 school year, the Athletic Booster Club has instituted a Volunteer Hour Policy. These hours must be completed each year, as listed below, in order for a senior to be eligible to receive an Athletic Booster Club Scholarship. The policy was adopted to help alleviate volunteer needs in the concession stands, in the Paw Shop, at the programs table, etc.
Student athletes of graduating classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 will be "grandfathered in". Student athletes of Class of 2021 and graduating classes thereafter will need to have all 14 mandatory volunteer hours.
- Freshman, 2021, 4 hours needed
- Sophomore, 2020, 4 hours needed
- Junior, 2019, 4 hours needed
- Senior, 2018, 2 hours needed
There are numerous ways you can volunteer to help. Parents & Student Athletes will be given instructions on how to link to an online volunteer caldenar database called SignUp.com. Volunteers should enter all requested information on the site.
***NOTE***
Parents/Athletes volunteer hours are required for VAABC Scholarship consideration and eligibility
BACK TO SCHOOL IMMUNIZATIONS
All students need to be up-to-date with their shots before returning to school in the fall. Grayson County Health Department is a provider for the Texas Vaccine For Children Program through the Texas Department of State Health Services. The cost per child is $20 (cash only), each child must have a current/complete immunization record, each child must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Also, medications (prescription/non-prescription) brought to school need to be picked up by a parent by the last day of school or they will be disposed of by the school nurse. They will not be sent home in the child's backpack nor kept in the clinic for the next school year.
Attendance Matters!
Please turn them in to the front office. See below for further details.
