Bio for Wednesday's Career Speaker!
Speaker - Julia Gale. Here is her bio!
My job title is ‘Senior Research Scientist’ and I’m a Geologist. I work at UT in The Bureau of Economic Geology.
Senior Research Scientists work in collaborative teams to come up with ideas for projects that will address scientific questions. They are in charge of writing proposals to get funding for these projects. If successful, they manage the projects and do some of the science themselves. In my case I look at rocks, out in the natural environment, in rock core recovered from underground, and under a Scanning Electron Microscope. We work to deliver results to the funding organization, and then write the work up in papers for peer-reviewed scientific journals and present talks at international scientific conferences. We also mentor younger researchers and students, and I’m an Associate Editor for a Journal. I also serve on, or Chair, various committees in our organization.
