Meet the Specialists!
MUSIC SPECIALIST: Shelly Hart
Shelly worked as a local performer and arts educator prior to completing her multi-subject teaching credential. She has a Bachelor’s degree from CSU Fullerton and a Master’s degree from University of Hawaii, both in Music/Vocal Performance. She spent over 20 years working as a professional opera/musical theater performer and Arts Educator here in San Diego and Hawaii. As an Arts Educator she taught music residency programs in K-12 classrooms for San Diego Opera and La Jolla Playhouse and was a part of Hawaii Opera Theater’s Ensemble Touring group for elementary schools while living in Hawaii. In addition to performing and teaching music residencies, she ran the Non-profit Actors Alliance of San Diego with her identical twin sister Shauna Hart, where she served as Executive and Education Director. As Education Director, she implemented a summer musical theater intensive program for middle school and high school students and taught all classes for the Liberty Schools program which offered arts classes to students from the juvenile hall system. She loves being a part of the Vista Academy HeArts team!
Students can visit Mrs. Hart’s Virtual Classroom to practice skills and create music!
My student is an English Learner (EL). What does that mean?
How are students classified as an EL?
A home language survey is given to the parent or guardian when a student registers for schooling in our district (or any district in California). Based on answers given a student may be asked to take an Initial ELPAC test (English Language Proficiency Assessment) to determine if their primary language is a language other than English. The Initial ELPAC test scoring will determine if a student will need language support services. If services are needed a student will be classified as an EL.

Booktoberfest started today! Have you registered your child yet?
Booktoberfest is a school-wide Read-a-thon... And it’s our biggest fundraiser of the year!
We are trying to get 100% of our Vista Academy students registered online by this weekend. Once your little bulldog is registered, they receive a super fun bulldog paw bookmark! There are lots of other incentives to earn as well.
If your child reaches their $30 goal, they earn a mystery Halloween squishy. If we earn $5,000 as a whole school, we will have bubbles at the front gate!
