STEM WEEK!

What an AMAZING week! We decided to things a little differently this year for the week leading up the holiday break and we celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and the week was a HUGE success! Visits to the nurse and the office were cut in half and we regularly heard comments from kids and parents about how much fun they were having this week. The amazing part of it all, the kids were working hard and learning all week! Our designs challenges gave students the opportunity to work collaboratively to solve some very difficult challenges and all our presenters were AWESOME! Thank you to everyone who helped us out this week. Below are just a few of the many pictures we have from some of the many activities we had going on all week.

Design Challenges

Handsfree Holder Challenge

Monday's challenge was to design a holder for something you would normally hold with your hands. Here's a few notable entries!

Paper Airplane Challenge

Who doesn't love making paper airplanes? We had a hard time finding anyone who didn't like this challenge. For this challenge students had the opportunity to participate in a school wide contest which measured distance, accuracy and the ability to carry cargo! Students had to get their plane through 2 hula hoops that we had hanging in the hallway. We were very impressed with the many unique designs!

Highlight of the Week

Jay Mankita and his Rube Goldberg Machines might have been the highlight of the week. He was amazing! Jay was with us for three days and all our students had the opportunity to hear him talk about the design process and the importance of failure. All our classes also had the opportunity to spend and hour with Jay so they could build their own Rube Goldberg Machine.....which is a complex machine that solves a simple problem.
