Welcome class of 2025!

The guidance and counseling department would like to extend a warm welcome to the class of 2025 and all new students at PHS. We are pleased to announce that we have five exchange students with us from the countries of France, Germany, Poland, and Spain. We hope they have an amazing experience this school year.

As the end of our first quarter of the school year approaches, we have been so happy to see the students back into somewhat of a normal school year. The counseling department hosted their annual activities fair last month in an effort to showcase the clubs and organizations our school has to offer all students. If students were unable to stop by, or would like to still join a club/organization, please visit this link to see the list and when the groups meet:

FAFSA Filing Night - Oct 28, 2021

On October 28, LEAF (Lake Educational Assistance Foundation) will be at Perry High School to assist families with the completion of the FAFSA form. There are limited time slots available. Please sign up by Wednesday, October 21, 2021. Elia De La Garza, our new LEAF advisor, will be present to assist any families who may need Spanish translation.

Perry High School is using a new future-planning platform called Scoir. With Scoir, students can research colleges as well as request transcripts and letters of recommendations. Students can also use features such as creating a resume and YouScience. We look forward to introducing different parts of Scoir with each grade level.

For any seniors who plan on attending a four-year university, many schools have their first wave of early deadlines November 1st. Students should submit their college applications first, then add the school in Scoir in order for your counselor to send the transcript, as well as any letter(s) of recommendation that may be required. If you are choosing to report your ACT/SAT scores, you will send those directly from the testing sites. The ACT scores come from and SAT scores come from CollegeBoard. Please see your counselor should you have any questions.

Another great feature of Scoir is that it showcases upcoming college rep visits where students can register ahead of time to meet with college admission reps during ICE and lunch blocks . Below is an upcoming schedule:

Wed Oct 13, 2021: Gannon University

Mon Oct 18, 2021: Mercyhurst University

Tue Oct 19, 2021: US ARMY

Wed Oct 20, 2021: Cleveland State University

Wed Nov 3, 2021: Lakeland Community College

Meet Mr. Gecewich

The guidance department is thrilled to have an additional resource to Perry Schools: Mr. Bob Gecewich. Mr. Gecewich serves as our district's social emotional specialist and works with students in grades six through twelve. During a typical day at Perry, Mr. Gecewich offers academic, social, and behavioral support while serving both the middle and high schools.

HOBY Youth Leadership - Sophomores

Any sophomore who may be interested in exploring their leadership potential should consider applying to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership State Seminar.

At HOBY, high school sophomores learn to inspire through leadership development programs. State Leadership Seminars are three to four day residential programs, typically held on a college or university campus. Virtual Leadership Seminars are two to three day live online programs that allow students to participate from the safety of their own home without the need to travel.

Regardless of format, HOBY Leadership Seminars are highly interactive programs, following a leadership development curriculum which allows students to discover leadership from a personal, group, and socially responsible perspective.

Please stop in the guidance office to pick up an informational and application packet, which is due Friday, November 19th.

Buckeye Boys/Girls State - Juniors

Attention Juniors:

Are you interested in learning more about how our government works while making new friends from all over Ohio? Please consider attending Buckeye Boys/Girls State.

These programs provide a practical exercise in the operation of a democratic government as the students govern a fictious 51st state. They will run for election and will be appointed to serve in offices within the Legislative Branch and in Cabinet/Administrative Departments at the State, County and Local Government levels. All Buckeye Boys State Delegates will be required to attend a local orientation meeting in April or May 2022. Additional information on the program can be found online at Buckeye Girls State Delegates will be required to complete an online orientation at

Boys State will be held at Miami University in Oxford, OH: June 12–19, 2022

Girls State will be held at University of Mt. Union in Alliance, OH: June 12-18, 2022

Applications and other information are available through Mrs. Lisa Gigante, School Counselor at Perry High School. Applicants will be interviewed, and final selection will be made by the American Legion.

Applications must be completed and returned to Mrs. Gigante no later than Monday, November 22, 2021.

October 20th is the day that snapshots of grades are used in reporting eligibility. This impacts all extra-curricular activities. A student must have a total of 2.5 credits per semester (based on a block schedule), pass every class, and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.

Students taking CCP courses must get their eligibility forms, which were mailed home recently, signed by the instructor along with their current grades, and return to Mrs. Ovens in the PAC office. Additional forms are available in the high school office.

If your student is concerned, please have the student contact their counselor.

Is the Military in Your Future?

Students who may be interested in joining the military should take the ASVAB assessment, which is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The test will be given FREE of charge at Perry HS on 11/3/21 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am in room 307. You must pre-register with Mrs. Soeder in advance.
