Keith's Got Talent 2020! Registration Now Open to All!
Keith’s Got Talent, our annual variety show, is coming soon! Please mark your calendars for Friday, January 24th, 2020 at 6:30 pm for a night of fabulous performances by our very own students. The event will be held in Walled Lake Central’s auditorium. The price of admission will be $2.00. If your child would like to perform, please fill out the form (attached below) and return it to the main office.
Please note: Our rehearsal protocol has changed. Each act must submit a taped video of their act to Mrs. Matyus (ShannonMatyus@teachers.wlcsd.org) or Mr. Hewitt (MatthewHewitt@teachers.wlcsd.org) ALONG WITH A SEPERATE MUSIC FILE DIGITALLY, ON CD, OR FLASHDRIVE by January 17th 2019. Any type electronic submission will be accepted, including Google files and CD’s. Our variety acts might include singing, dancing, acting, gymnastics, comedy, instrumental music, magic, athletic abilities, and more.
All acts must be under 1 ½ minutes, making sure any music/content is age appropriate. In order to keep the show to a reasonable time frame, we strongly encourage group acts. Please turn in one form for each child, even if they are in the same act. Please note our new electronic rehearsal submission policy above.
**Any further inquiries may be sent to ShannonMatyus@wlcsd.org or MatthewHewitt@wlcsd.org**

WLCSD MLK Day Celebration!
Keith Ski Club
It's time!! The Keith Dragon Ski Club is starting now! There are some big changes to the program this year. It may seem a bit confusing in the beginning, but I think it will work out in the end to be a better program than last year.
Every participant will need to have a "Club Card" to participate in the Ski club- this includes adults. The card will cost $20. The Club card includes either two free ski or one free snowboard lessons. (Lessons only for ages 6-18- no adults) It also includes five free $5 off coupons to be used for lift tickets on any non club day at Alpine.
Parents & students are going to be responsible for carrying their Club Card- which will also serve as their "Patch Lesson" card. They will no longer be kept on file at Alpine. No reimbursement for lost cards. Pricing will be the same for everyday! No more higher prices on Fridays!!
Lift Tickets- $20
Equipment rental $20
Helmets- $10
Due to confusion Alpine has chosen to change one part of the program this year.
Now adults who want to participate may purchase lift tickets and rental equipment at club pricing without a club card. All children ages six through 18 who participate will still be required to have a club card for the $20
Our Club day will be Fridays. If you want other days I can refer you to other club managers. During breaks I will still run the club and if I get enough interest in other days I might have a few bonus days.
Club starts at 4PM.
I will be upstairs in the lodge (look for our "DownhillDragons" poster) Slopes close from 5:30-6PM for grooming. Lessons start promptly at 6:15 - please get to Alpine by 5:45 if taking lessons to give yourself enough time to get yourself situated. Payment must be received no later than 11AM on Friday.
When making payment please indicate the participants name. What if any equipment they require. For the first payment do not forget the additional $20 for the Club Card. Payment is accepted by Venmo, Cash Ap or check or cash dropped at Keith no later than 10:30AM on Fridays. I know some people prefer PayPal but I had a few issues with it last year- people indicated paying for a "service" and because I don't use PayPal ofter they don't identify me as a "seller" and they held the payment for 30 days- which required me to front the payment.

Cash Ap- $KeithSkiClub
Any questions? Email or text me at 248-981-9267
If anyone wants to invite friends to participate feel free to give them my info. Just remember ALL participants need a club card. If anyone has a hard time with the cost let me know and we can arrange 'scholarships'. Getting outside exercise in the winter is so important! Hope to see you all on Friday!!
Update: As of right now the weather is looking favorable so for everyone who wants to participate in Ski club this week please get your payments in before Friday at 11 AM!!!
I also forgot to mention another form of payment I can accept is via Zelle
If you want to send payment via Zelle it goes to my phone number which is 248-981-9267. I have to have a full count of 20 skiers to be able to operate so please let me know as soon as you possibly can!

Second Step Lessons
Parents, this week your children focused on the second step lesson below. Please take a moment to talk with your children about how they took time to show positive behavior at school.
Calming Down
When you have a strong feeling, it’s had for your brain to think. After you use your stop signal and name your feeling, you’re ready to calm down! You can calm down by doing some slow deep belly breathing, counting, or using self-talk. Think for a moment about your favorite Way to Calm Down. Remember to use it this week if you need to. Calming down helps you think clearly!
Our focus for next week is listed below. We will review the following with your children when they return to school on Monday.
Managing Learning Challenges
Using our Calming-Down Steps at Keith Elementary helps us be better learners! There are many opportunities to practice your calming-down skills at school. You may have a strong feeling when you have to wait, or when you make a mistake, or when you have trouble finishing a difficult task. These are perfect moments to practice using your stop signal, naming your feeling, and calming down. When staff and students at Keith Elementary calm down our emotions, it helps us all learn.
