Parent Teacher Conferences
Teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, December 4 from 1:30-6:30 and December 5 from 4:30-8:30. Sign up sheets went home in back packs 11/7. Each child needs to return a slip to their teacher to help facilitate scheduling and please keep in mind it is one 15 minute conference per child.
Grades will close on Wednesday, November 20. Reports will go home at the start of December and conferences will be held on December 4 and 5. More info to come.
Pembroke Tree Lighting Committee
Pembroke Tree Lighting Committee is collecting non-perishable items for the town food pantries. Be sure that each donated item has the Golden Ticket Drawing tag attached to it. One winner from NPES will ride the fire truck at the celebration.
Lost and Found is piling up. Be sure to check it out when visiting for conferences. All unclaimed items will be donated on 12/6.

What are bucket fillers?
We have "Bucket Filler" buckets in every building with compliment cards. These positive messages are shared and celebrated each week. Over 85 messages have been submitted by staff this year.
This week we celebrated some of the teachers at North and filled their "buckets" with positive messages.

ERD on the following dates
11/27, 12/4, 3/18, 4/1, 5/6, 6/12. Dismissal is at 1:10. Lunch is served for grades 5-6. No breakfast or snack services provided. Morning and full-day preschool will dismiss at 11 and no afternoon preschool.
You must have a valid CORI on file with PPS in order to volunteer at NPES. CORI’s are valid for 3 years and it takes 2-3 weeks for processing.

Dear Pembroke Public Schools Families,
During the week of January 6, 2020, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Public School Monitoring (PSM) will conduct a Tiered Focused Monitoring Review of Pembroke Public Schools. The Office of Public School Monitoring visits each district and charter school every three years to monitor compliance with federal and state special education and civil rights regulations. Areas of review related to special education include student assessments, determination of eligibility, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team process, and IEP development and implementation. Areas of review related to civil rights include bullying, student discipline, physical restraint, and equal access to school programs for all students.
In addition to the onsite visit, parent outreach is an important part of the review process. The review chairperson from the Office of Public School Monitoring will send all parents of students with disabilities an online survey that focuses on key areas of their child’s special education program. Survey results will contribute to the development of a report. During the onsite review, the Office of Public School Monitoring will interview district staff and administrators and conduct onsite observations.
Parents and other individuals may call Jesee Kihiko, Public School Monitoring Chairperson, at (781) 338-3745 to request a telephone interview. If an individual requires an accommodation, such as translation, to participate in an interview, the Department will make the necessary arrangements.
Within approximately 60 business days after the onsite visit, the review chairperson will provide the Pembroke Public Schools with a report with information about areas in which the Pembroke Public Schools meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and areas in which the Pembroke Public Schools requires assistance to correct or improve practices. The public will be able to access the report at www.doe.mass.edu/pqa/review/cpr/reports/.

In Case You Missed It...
Thank you so much to all the parents who came out on Tuesday night and braved the cold for our last PTO meeting of 2019! We added a line item starting in 2020-2021 allotting $1,000 for 6th grade activities, learned about the Easy money opportunities thanks to Carly Levy, hammered out the Event calendar, discussed ways of promoting the family directory so more parents fill it out, learned about Principal Nali’s student of the month breakfast, and a bunch of other things! Thank you to Allison Joubert for stepping in as secretary! Thank you all again!

Box Tops for Education
Last week in your child’s backpack, you should have received a handout on box tops. For over 20 years, Box Tops for Education has given families an easy way to earn cash for their school, with products they already buy. As you may or may not know, box tops have gone digital! So, there are two ways that you can help support the school through the box tops program:
1. Bring in your clipped box tops. The old box tops image has a purple folder with Box Tops and a pencil that says education over it. There should a date of expiration as well. Bring these in either in a bag with your child's teacher name or taped to the handout. These are due 10/21 for the fall submission.
2. Scan your receipts. Download the new app and scan your receipts. This is the box top image that says 'no more clipping.' Alternatively, send in your receipts and we will scan them! Just let us know what teacher to credit the box tops to. Scanned receipts can be brought in at any time, but they have to be scanned within 14 days of purchase.

Here you will find information about upcoming town events such as youth sports, camps, town recreation, etc. We hope that this new “Community Notices” virtual backpack will help streamline communication between the community and school district.
