Brick Bridge

March 2023

Message from the Director

Greetings!

The month of March is National Reading Month. It is kicked off with ‘Read Across America Day’ on March 2nd, which is also the birthday of one of the most beloved children’s book authors of all time — Dr. Seuss. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association, Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and shared reading experiences.

As part of the Karen Minutella Reading Initiative, the Brick Elks Club donated a copy of Freckle Juice to every 3rd grade student! Karen Minutella, an Elks Club member, lost her life in a tragic accident. One of Karen’s last acts as an Elks Club member was to read to students. This initiative, named in Karen’s honor, helps her legacy live on in our community. On Read Across America Day, Elks Club members visited our 3rd grade classrooms to read an excerpt from the book. We are so grateful for this partnership.

We also wanted to feature some of the enrichment and support opportunities that are available through our EXCEL and after school programs. Please enjoy this edition of the Brick Bridge as we celebrate reading, enrichment, and support.

Educationally yours,

Dr. Anderson
