Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians
Mother’s Day
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I take this opportunity of wishing all our mums a wonderful day of rest and relaxation as you spend quality time with your children and families this Sunday. May you be surrounded with lots of love and blessed with many special moments. We look forward to your celebrations beginning with a shared cuppa and muffin at school tomorrow morning.
A huge thank you must go to the P&F Association for organising the Mother’s Day Stall and to families for their support. It’s always great to see the excitement on our children’s faces as they negotiate that special something for mum!
Also a huge thank you to our 'Whitty Dads' volunteers for helping out at the Mother's Day breakfast this week. It is great to see so many of you giving up your time to help thank our wonderful mums.
Mothers' & Grandmothers' Breakfast - Tomorrow 7.45am
NAPLAN
Over the next two weeks, students in Years 3 & 5 will participate for the first time in on-line NAPLAN testing. Parents of these students will have already received information via School Stream from our Social Worker, Mrs Mahon, on strategies to help prepare children for these formal test situations. I take this opportunity of reinforcing the importance in being positive about the testing with your child, focussing on the process and not the results, sticking to your normal morning routine and ensuring your child gets a good night’s sleep. We are confident that students have been well prepared by staff and we wish them all the best with this new experience.
Teacher Appreciation Week
This week we celebrate the gift of our teachers throughout Teacher Appreciation Week. We know that our teachers don’t just teach children, they help prepare them for the road ahead in life. We thank them for their amazing effort and the positive impact they have beyond the classroom. Thanks everyone!
On a finishing note, I thought this was a nice little quote to take us into the weekend and beyond:
"Life is a journey, and if you fall in love with the journey, you will be in love forever."
Many blessings

Principal

No Parking On Marmion Avenue – Before Or After School
A reminder that parking on Marmion Avenue is extremely dangerous and parents pulling on to and off of Marmion Avenue before and after school pick-up has caused a few near accidents in the last few weeks. For your own child’s safety, please use the school drop off or pick up areas being front carpark, underpass or Barradine Way.
Please also be aware of the construction around the corner of Barradine Way. This is not part of any school construction however the school will be in contact with the company to ensure before and after school pick up is not affected.
NAPLAN Testing for Year 3 & Year 5 Students 14-24 May
The National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be conducted from 14 May until 24 May 2019.
All parents of Year 3 and Year 5 students should have already received an information brochure on NAPLAN 2019. NAPLAN assesses Literacy and Numeracy skills, providing information for parents, teachers and principals which can be used to improve student achievement. This year all students will be sitting NAPLAN online, with the exception of the Year 3 students who will be completing their writing assessment on paper.
Please find the timetable below: -
Please ensure your child’s iPad is fully charged and they have a set of headphones on the days of testing.
Some helpful tips for your child might include:-
1. If your child is not worried about the test than neither should you.
2. Make the focus on doing their best & trying hard.
3. Listen to any concerns they have.
4. Give them some relaxation ideas.
5. Help them retain their perspective.
If you have any questions regarding this please contact myself or your classroom teacher. For further information visit the website nap.edu.au.

Paint Me A Rainbow - Autism Awareness Campaign 2019
Thank you to all of the students, families and staff who helped support the 2019 Paint Me A Rainbow - Autism Awareness Campaign on 'Rainbow Day'. Together we are raising awareness and acceptance for all children with autism. As well as supporting this very worthwhile cause, WCPS received $1224.97 as part of the funds raised which will go toward purchasing further resources for children within the school with an autism diagnosis. Special thanks to Kylie Beveridge for coordinating this special event.

We still need more volunteers for the rest of the year, for both days. If you are able to help out for a few hours (approx 4-5hrs) a term please grab a form from the office or the canteen. Thank you!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
We need volunteers for a costume making Busy Bee on Sunday 19 May from 12pm in the Gym. We would need a variety of different experiences from cutting fabric, hand sewing, sewing scrunchies and sewing with an over locker. You don’t need to be an experienced sewer to help out! Please keep an eye out on School Stream for more information!

School banking is run by parent volunteers and we need more helpers. Commitment is only 1-2 hours on a Tuesday morning, max 3 times per term and this is less if we have more volunteers. We love a cuppa and a chat and training is provided on the job, it is a very relaxed atmosphere and if you have some time we would love your help. Please email mary1@iinet.net.au if you can help.
