October Lunch Menu - CHANGES Please Read

You will find the lunch menu for October in today's Falcon Express Envelope. We have included a copy of the menu for each child in multi-child families. I recognize that there have been some challenges with the system for ordering lunches. In an effort to rectify the situation, I am changing the procedures for ordering lunches effective immediately.

If you choose to order lunches for the month of October, please indicate so on the October calendar and attach a check to cover the cost of the lunches made out to St. Joseph Academy. I am hopeful that this will be an efficient way to process lunch orders and rectify some of the challenges we have been facing. Please submit October lunch orders no later than September 27.

* I recognize the format for the lunch menus that we send home to you needs to be changed. I am making the necessary modifications that will be reflected when you receive the lunch menu in November. Thank you in advance for your patience as I continue to find ways to make this process easier for you and for our office staff. God Bless!

Dress Down Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Friday, September 20th is a Dress Down Day. Students may bring in $1 and dress down. Funds collected from this Friday's dress down will be used towards our 8th Grade Graduation Events and Activities. Thank you for your support. Be sure to check the dress code for dress down days in the Parent/Student Handbook.

*Students are invited to wear orange tomorrow in honor of Mrs. Bruchey and Leukemia Awareness month. This is certainly encouraged but not required. We will take pictures of our students in orange and send it to Mrs. Bruchey! Please continue to pray for her.

Mid Term Progress Reports and Conferences

We are quickly approaching the halfway point of our first trimester. Time sure does fly when you're having fun! All parents of students in kindergarten through grade 8 are required to attend a Parent Teacher Conference. Parent Teacher Conferences are being held on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th.

Parents of Students in Kindergarten through Grade 4: Please be sure to return your Conference Request form with your preferred times for a Parent Teacher Conference. In your Falcon Express Envelope next week, you will find the form with your confirmed conference time. Please remember that conferences are scheduled to last for ten minutes. If you need additional time with your child's teacher, we will be happy to schedule an appointment for another time.

Parents of Students in Grades 5 through 8: You will NOT have a conference scheduled. Please be sure to make plans to drop by during the Conference window. Parents will pick up progress reports from the middle school hallway and then visit with teacher(s) of the parents' choosing. Teachers will be available on Thursday, October 3 from 2:30-6:30pm and Friday, October 4 from 2:30-3:30pm.

Arriving After 3:30pm to Pick Up Your Child?

If you are delayed in arriving at school to pick up your child, please report to aftercare to locate your student. At 3:30pm daily, all students remaining at school are escorted to the dining hall for aftercare. You are encouraged to park along Frank Lloyd Wright Way and find your child in the dining hall. Aftercare students may also be found on the playground adjacent to the office parking lot.

We recognize that knowledge is power! As your partner in educating your child, we want you to know what is happening in the classroom. We hope you have been receiving newsletters from your child's teacher(s). Teachers of students in VPK through grade four send weekly electronic newsletters to your email address. Middle school newsletters are sent every other week. The next middle school newsletter will come out this Friday, September 20th.

If you aren't receiving the newsletters, please contact Mrs. Haas at thaas@sjalakeland.org.

Soccer Team Kicks Off their Season

The Boys Soccer Team kicked off their season this week with a game against Grace Lutheran. Congratulations, Falcons, on a hard fought game! Like our girls volleyball team, the boys soccer team is wearing orange socks this season in honor of Mrs. Bruchey. Orange is the color for leukemia awareness. Go Falcons!

Our SJA community received orange #MrsBrucheyStrong bracelets earlier this week. Students are invited to wear these bracelets in honor of Mrs. Bruchey and her fight against leukemia. We continue to pray for Mrs. Bruchey.

Scholastic Book Orders

If you are looking to order books from Scholastic for your children, please use the class code: LQ82L under Mrs. Ellerbe. The website is: https://clubs.scholastic.com/home and you can place your orders and pay for them online. Books also make great gifts for birthday parties and you can buy and donate books to your child's classroom too! If you're not a parent, you can use this code to order books if you'd like to donate them to our school.

As a school, for every $300 in books we order by 9/30/19 we will have 10,000 points. We use the points throughout the school year to buy books that the teachers would like to have in their classrooms for students. Last year, we placed $1,200 in orders and had 40,000 points!

Please email Mrs. Ellerbe with any questions: sellerbe@sjalakeland.org

Fall Festival Sponsors

Thank you to all who have committed to be a sponsor for our Fall Festival. We are grateful for your support. We've collected $770 already in sponsorships! Way to go Falcons! If you are still interested in sponsoring, additional forms can be picked up in the school office.

Please remember that all students in grades 3 through 8 are invited to join our school mass choir! Practices are held every Tuesday from 3:15-3:45pm in the school chapel. Those students who stay after for practice on Tuesday are invited to sit upstairs with the choir at mass on Wednesdays.

*At 3:45pm, choir students will be escorted to the gate along Frank Lloyd Wright Way to meet their parents. If parents aren't waiting to pick up their child(ren), the students will be sent to aftercare.
