A Few Words On...
As the leader of St. Stanislaus Kostka Academy, I would just like to share a few words and thoughts on several topics and happenings in our school community.
i-Ready Diagnostic This Week
Throughout the year, our teachers and students will be supported in their teaching and learning by a program called i-Ready. At the start of the school year, every student takes the first i-Ready Diagnostic Test. This test gauges student abilities and aptitude in multiple developmental areas of reading and mathematics. The i-Ready system then creates learning paths, specific to the needs of each individual student. Each week our teachers will work with students to complete individual instruction on i-Ready and engage in "data chats" with their classes so that students can be aware of and recognize their progress.
This week, students will be taking the 1st Diagnostic Test. This will serve as our baseline benchmark for our students and teachers in assessing learning. Whether a student is above, on, or below grade-level, our teachers will try hard to help students achieve growth throughout the school year. I encourage you to speak with your child about the importance of taking this work seriously and doing their best whenever they are given the opportunity during the school day.
Things to put on Your Calendar
St. Stan's Academy will be offering flu shots to students and families beginning at 8am on Tuesday, September 13. Shots are open to adults and children 3 and up who are accompanied by a parent/guardian. All that is needed is an insurance card. Please click on this link to sign-up and register for your flu shot.
Our middle school students will have the opportunity to participate in the Catholic High School Fair on Wednesday, September 14. Representatives from local Catholic High Schools will be at St. Stan's to speak to our students about their options for the future. Parents are welcome to attend the fair after dismissal from 3pm-3:30pm.
Gentle Reminders
Back-to-School Forms & Parent-Student Handbook
It is very important that all families review our Parent-Student Handbook and complete our Back-to-School Forms as soon as you are able. 1/3 of our families have still not completed this paperwork. The Handbook has important information on a variety of topics and the School Forms are necessary to have in cases of emergency. If you have any questions, please contact the Main Office.
FSP Lunches
You must register your child(ren) in FSP's Boonli Payment System if you wish for them to continue receiving hot lunches. Numerous students have been getting in line to receive lunches without ever having been registered. This causes a miscount in lunches and issues making sure all students receive a lunch. If your child has been receiving lunches without an account previously being set up, you will be billed by FSP. If you want to apply for free or reduced-price lunch, please stop in the Main Office and complete an application.
Meet the Teacher Night
Thursday, September 1 will be our "Meet the Teacher Night" at St. Stan's Academy. This is a required meeting for all families to attend. As such, please make sure that a member of your family is able to be there for the entirety of the evening. Since this is an event for parents and guardians, we ask that only you attend. Please make arrangements for childcare in advance.
The evening will begin promptly at 6pm and end around 8pm. Families will have the opportunity to meet with their child's classroom teacher, the Principal, the school counselor/support staff, and other parents to learn about future involvement at St. Stan's. Parents will also be able to explore the Scholastic Book Fair during the evening. We very much look forward to meeting you all face-to-face!
Leaders of the Week
Each week our grade-level teams will decide which of their students demonstrated awesome leadership in the classroom and around the school.
This week's "Leaders of the Week" are...
Galilea Zarco
K-2nd Grade Leader
Alina Miranda
3rd-5th Grade Leader
Mya Nance
6th-8th Grade Leader
The Scholastic Book Fair will run from Monday through Friday this week! Students will have an opportunity to explore the fair during their library and technology class this week. Parents can check things out from 3:00-3:30pm each day and during "Meet the Teacher Night" on Thursday.
Students should have brought home information on several options for purchasing books. Creating an e-Wallet is probably the easiest way! Please click on this link to set-up an e-Wallet for your child. You can also watch the video below for more information on the book fair. If you have any questions regarding the fair, contact Mrs. Rosemary Walsh at rwalsh@ststanschicago.org.
Back-to-School Forms & Parent-Student Handbook
All families must complete the Back-to-School Forms as soon as possible. These forms have important information that the school needs in the event of an accident or emergency. Additionally, parents and students are responsible for knowing and understanding the contents of our Parent-Student Handbook. Please review this information carefully and let us know if you have an questions.
