Fourth Grade AIM
It's AIM Day!
Today in AIM
It's AIM day here at Norton! Today was our first day of fourth grade and I couldn't have been more excited to connect with these fantastic fourth graders. We spent the first part of our morning setting up our AIM bank accounts by learning about the fourth, fifth and sixth grade pay structure (all "money" earned in AIM is paper money to be spent in our MORE store). As new fourth graders our class learned that their gross income will be based on their classroom grades (something that is within their control) with bonuses coming from the MORE points they earn in AIM. Together we learned how to calculate our taxes, deduct their fixed and variable expenses and balanced their bank account. It's a lot for them to take in BUT what could be more valuable than learning how to manage their money? We will continue to practice this every week.
We spent the rest of our time together launching a super cool design project that we are going to participate in.... a cardboard boat race challenge! This is new to us and will replace the golf courses that we usually work on (I love mixing things up now and again). They were over the moon about it. This is an actual race hosted by the City of Allen on September 28th from 1:00 - 2:30pm at the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium. Keep in mind - it is not required that your child actually participate in the race with their team, however, if they WANT to, they will have a boat ready to go! I have all the supplies organized but am looking for paddles ( life vests are required and will be provided by the City of Allen). I am as excited as they are to work through the process. Together we created a long, long list of things we needed to know before we could get started with the building and immediately broke into teams to start researching!
