What is KT?
- A social process that transforms knowledge, built on exchange relationships
- It’s interactive and requires coordination and alignment between perspectives
- Causes change--in attitudes, in behaviour, in policy
- Has been a slow, unpredictable process

Principles for KT
Based on Barwick's (2013) KT Planning Template-R & KTPC training
- Develop plain language, main messages tailored for audience
- The 30 second elevator pitch! (get at the heart of it)
- Focus on verbs, not nouns (Cathy R.), careful use of language is critical
- Messages that aren't blaming (Helene) or take a revolutionary approach?
- Develop clear KT goals (e.g. awareness, generate policy change, practice change...)
- Choose KT methods that have effective results
- Important to coordinate timing of messages with media and political agendas (Yasmin)
- Consider resources required
- Consider measuring impact and evaluation (e.g. outputs, process measures, tech metrics)
- Remember that building relationships is key with any strategy or approach
KT Opportunites to Impact Change

3. Who are the audiences? (see below)?
4. How do we tailor messages to those audiences?
