Class of 2024 M-Step Schedule
The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP, is a 21st Century computer-based assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards, developed for educators by educators, broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college. M-STEP results, when combined with classroom work, report cards, local district assessments, and other tools offer a comprehensive view of student progress and achievement.
Your 11th-grade student will be taking the M-STEP within the next three weeks during 1st and 2nd hour. The Date and Room where your child(ren) will be tested are listed in the graphic below. Your child also received a Microsoft Teams Message indicating their date of testing and location. You must bring your school-issued device to your testing location. This test takes approximately 2 hours but is untimed and student-paced.
4th Term Senior Exemption Contract
Attention parents, as communicated during the Senior meetings, students are being offered a 4th term exam incentive policy. This has been sent out to teachers and students this week. Only students who agree to the policy will be eligible to be exempt from 4th Term exams. The default is that all LOHS seniors will take 4th Term exams. This is an “opt in” policy. Students wanting to Opt In should reach out to their instructors

Oakland Community College Field Trip for Seniors
On May 3, 2023 LOHS staff will be taking a field trip to Oakland Community College. Students will tour Oakland Community College, receive information about various programs, help with the application process, have the opportunity to speak with the Financial Aid officers and ask questions. This field trip is free. Permission slips are available in the Counseling Office and the Career Center.
Space is limited.
Submit your permission slip as soon as possible.
This week's topics:
"Don't Catch 'Senioritis'" - Bierer College Consulting. Colleges and universities want to be certain that students don’t fall into a “senior slump” and assume that since they are already in, their grades no longer matter.
"7 Best Mental Health Apps to Boost Your Happiness" - CNet, March 23, 2023. Mental health apps are an easy resource that can help you manage your stress, tame anxiety and elevate your mood. But they're not a one-size-fits-all.
Pomeroy Living
PSA:
Pomeroy Assisted Living and the Condo Complex are off limits to thru traffic. While LOHS cannot police that part of the campus, the Oakland County Sherriff can.
2023-24 CALENDARS
The 2023-24 Lake Orion Community Schools calendars are now available by clicking on each level calendar below and they are also posted on the LakeOrionSchools.org calendar page. Calendars of important dates are linked below. The other district calendars will be posted on the LOCS calendar page when available.
School Dismissal Manager
We have started utilizing School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program for parents to communicate early student departures. LOHS successfully used the SDM program last year. It is accessible on either computer or smartphone, allowing parents the opportunity to officially submit an early dismissal request without calling the school.
On approximately September 22, you should have received a communication from School Dismissal Manager with additional details. Parents are encouraged to check their designated email accounts. Also, be advised the message might be redirected to your “junk” folders. The welcome email from SDM provides all relevant information necessary to activate and begin using your account.
Family Portal
Just a reminder that Sendmoneytoschool.com has been replaced by lakeorion.familyportal.cloud. Please visit the site to set up a lunch account for your student. There is a tutorial at the bottom of the Family Portal page that walks you through the process of setting up an account. Information on meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year are listed below:
High School Prices
Breakfast Meal Price $2.00
Lunch Meal Price $3.50 - $3.75
