Please be sure you attend the parent conference to learn more about your child’s instructional program.
Kindergarten Registration
We will continue to register students for kindergarten in the State Road Main Office through June 30th. Registration packets can be found on the district web page. Look under “Departments and Central Registration” for links to the necessary forms. Bring the completed forms to school and we will work with you to complete the process and answer questions. You can also request a registration packet by calling central registration at 216-0079. We look forward to meeting you or welcoming you back with your incoming kindergartner.

Strike Up the Band… for the 25th Year!
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Willink Student-Parent Band, and for its silver jubilee the performers are pulling out all the stops for an amazing night of music!
A Webster tradition since 1994, the Willink Student-Parent Band brings students, family, and community together to create music and have fun in the process. It doesn’t matter if performers haven't played in 20 years; the band welcomes all levels of experience, beginner to advanced!
Rehearsals began in January for its anniversary concert set for Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Willink Middle School cafetorium. Since this is an extra special year, the Willink Student-Parent Band is planning an exciting program as well as some special guests, so mark your calendars and don't miss it!
If the Shoe Fits!
Following on the heels of Spry Middle School’s Guys & Dolls, Jr. (staged March 8-9), the district’s enchanted musical season continues with Webster Thomas High School’s presentation of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella later this month. There will be performances March 28-30 at 7:00 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 1:00 p.m. There will also be a magical Breakfast with Cinderella event on Saturday, March 23 at 9:00 a.m. You can learn more about the show and purchase tickets by visiting websterthomasplayers.com.
WonderCare Online Registration Begins Monday, March 18
WonderCare, Webster CSD's new before and after school program, will begin online registration on Monday, March 18. There will be no paper registration for the program and you will need to create an account to register your child(ren). Please visit www.websterschools.org/wondercare for more information.
You can also learn more about WonderCare by attending the remaining Parent Information Nights:
● Monday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Schlegel Road
● Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Klem Road North
● Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. at State Road
These evenings will be geared for parents only. (Family meet and greet nights will take place in August.) If you are unable to attend your home school date, you may attend any of the three remaining meetings.
WonderCare has been established in an ongoing effort to ease the transition for families as the district prepares to shift to an earlier start time for elementary schools in fall 2019. New start times for elementary schools will be 7:45 a.m.-2:15 p.m., and 8:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. for secondary schools (middle and high schools), with all times plus or minus five minutes.
If you have any questions, please contact wondercare@webstercsd.org or call 216-0017. You can also follow WonderCare on its new Facebook page, @wondercarewcsd.
Reminder!
WCSD uses the Infinite Campus Parent & Student Portal Messenger system to send important emails, phone calls, and texts throughout the year, including school closings. Please note that your carrier’s message and data rates may apply if you choose the optional text option. Parents may update email information for their child(ren) through the portal by clicking on the Contact Preferences tab. The tab enables parents to decide the ways they receive important school and district messages and the types of messages they wish to receive. Any changes to existing Parent & Student Portal home address or phone numbers must be made by contacting your school’s administrative offices.
Individuals who need their IC activation code of who have questions should contact ICPortal@webstercsd.org.
Library Announcements!
March Book MADNESS is here!
State Road is joining schools around the country in a bracket-style tournament that runs like the NCAA Basketball Championship, except it matches books in one-on-one “games” and students vote for their favorites to move on to the next round. A central goal of March Book Madness is to share literature that reflects and honors the lives of all young people. To that end these books showcase a diverse representation of characters, as well as authors and illustrators. Your child will be exposed to exciting picture books related to essential skills, acceptance and diversity that feature compelling characters. Who will be crowned the State Road 2019 Champion?! Ask your child about his or her favorites and follow the competition on the Library Facebook Page (State Road Library) or on Twitter: Mrs. Koch @StateRdLibrary
5th Grade Battle of the Books Competition!
Our amazing 5th graders formed teams and are reading and preparing for the Battle of the Books! Teams answer questions about the books in a fun competition which begins in library class on March 13th. Please encourage and support your child! All students win through this great event!
Webster Public Librarian Story Hour with 1st grade, March 7
Our wonderful Webster children’s librarians will be connecting with 1st graders sharing a fun storytime and building their relationship with the public library, an amazing community resource! We encourage you to take your child to the public library for free books, fun programs and more!
PLEASE help your child keep library books safe and dry.
Beware of leaking water bottles, puppies, toddlers, dragons, dark closets, snow, rain, blizzards, tornados, earthquakes, etc. You get the point and THANK YOU!

Adapted from: 30 Ways for Families to Beat the Winter Blahs by Tisha Foley
http://www.kcparent.com/January-2015/30-Ways-for-Families-to-Beat-the-Winter-Blahs/
Is your family already tired of being cooped up this winter? Do the kids have cabin fever? Are you counting the days until spring? Here are 30 ideas to revitalize, recharge and reenergize during the long, cold days of winter.
1. Go ice skating! The Webster Ice Arena offers affordable skating fun—and exercise!—for the whole family.
2. Visit a nursing home. Some residents don’t have many visitors; offer up a friendly conversation, play a game of cards or have the kids read a book to them.
3. Think beyond snowmen. Build a snow monster, a snow dinosaur or an entire snow zoo.
4. Have a game night. Turn off the electronics, get out some board games, make some snacks and have fun!
5. Perform random acts of kindness. Bake cookies and deliver them to teachers or do household chores for an elderly neighbor.
6. Visit the zoo. The Seneca Park Zoo is open year-round and hosts family nights and other events throughout winter.
7. “Count up” to spring. Cut out spring shapes, such as flowers, butterflies and raindrops. Punch a hole at the top and add one each day to yarn strung across a room.
8. Reminisce about summertime fun. Organize summer photos in an album and have the kids write captions.
9. Have a movie night at home. No sad movies allowed!
10. Visit your local library. Most have programs, fun events, story times and reading clubs.
11. De-clutter. Clean out closets and donate items to a charity.
12. Make a “must-do” list for spring/summer. The list might include Deanna Rose Farmstead, a Royals game, planting a garden and trying a new bike trail.
13. Volunteer at a food bank. Teach kids the importance of giving back.
14. Go on a weekend getaway. It doesn’t have to be far away or expensive; booking a room at a local hotel (with an indoor pool!) will refresh your family.
15. Get crafty. Go online to get fun ideas or get creative on your own.
16. Bake. Nothing beats the scent—and taste—of freshly-baked cookies. Plus the oven will help warm your house!
17. Make snow ice cream. Mix eight cups of fresh snow, a 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk and one teaspoon vanilla. Serve immediately and enjoy!
18. Go for a walk. It’s tempting to stay inside on cold winter days, but a brisk walk in the crisp air is invigorating!
19. Visit an indoor water park. Great Wolf Lodge and Palm Island Waterpark are nearby will help you pretend its summer.
20. Explore! Visit a new museum or a part of Strong National Museum of Play or the Butterfly Garden you haven’t been to before.
21. Try a new restaurant. Never been to a Japanese steakhouse or tried Thai food? Make a point to try a new menu.
22. Redecorate. Have the family pitch in to rearrange furniture, paint a room or hang up new wall décor.
23. Trace your family tree. Interview grandparents and other relatives to hear stories about past generations. Help the kids make a family tree.
24. Start a gratitude journal. Have all family members write one thing a day they are thankful for.
25. Create a hot chocolate bar. Add-in ideas: marshmallows, whipped cream, crushed peppermints, flavored creamers. Invite friends over for the fun.
26. Have an indoor picnic. Spread out a blanket and pack some yummy food. Bonus: no pesky ants or flies!
27. Join a community center. Some places offer short-term commitments. Get the family off their bottoms and doing something active!
28. Go on a neighborhood scavenger hunt. Things to look for: snow shovel, icicle, snowman, smoke from a chimney.
29. Feed the birds. Spread peanut butter on a bagel, then roll in bird seed. Attach yarn to it and hang from a tree. Your feathered friends will thank you!
30. Write “just because” cards. Choose a few people, such as neighbors, teachers or friends, and write a note telling them how much they mean to your family.
