Military and Family Life Counseling Program at Pattie

We want to support our military families as much as possible at Pattie. This year we are fortunate enough to have a full time Military and Family Life Counselor who can provide a wide range of supports to military children and their family members. For more information, please contact Ms. Sandra Jackson at (571) 835-6368.

Student Attendance

Student attendance in school, which includes being present for the entire school day, is so critical to their success - now and in their future. Please ensure that your student is in school regularly.

Homework

Every child has homework every night! Every child should be reading every, single night. This includes listening to others read in addition to reading their own books. Regular reading has a direct impact on a child's success in school and it is a great opportunity for families to be a part of their learning.

First Ever Element Games!

On Wednesday, October 2nd, students will participate in the first ever Element Games. This will very much resemble a typical field day, but at Pattie, Elements will compete to be the Element Games' Champion! There will be an overall Element winner, who will be rewarded 10 points for their Element! It is important that we teach children sportsmanship - how to win and lose appropriately. Students will not have Encore on this day, but they will follow their normal lunch schedule. Make sure that students wear their Element shirts, sneakers, and some extra spirit! They could get a little messy outside, so feel free to send along a change of clothes.

Element Games Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer during the Element Games, there are still a few slots open. Follow this link to sign up! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0548aca62daaff2-looking1

Kick-Off Pep Rally

Last week, students participated in the first Element Pep Rally of the year. The purpose was to generate excitement and a purpose for how we use the Elements throughout the year. It was also to assign all new students in grades 1-5, their Element and to reveal our Element Ambassadors for the school year. Element Ambassadors are school leaders who can reward students with "paws", assist on the morning announcements and with pep rallies, and mentor younger students. We will continue to have pep rallies at the end of each quarter (grading period) to reveal the points leader for that quarter.

2nd Grade Field Trip

Colgan High School runs a swim safety program for 2nd grade students, and this year, we were able to take advantage of this awesome opportunity! This has been a great opportunity for students to gain confidence in their swimming abilities and to learn water safety. This is also a unique and memorable experience for students to participate in together!

Watch D.O.G.S.

Schools need men to be present in their buildings to serve as positive male role models for kids and Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) is the perfect program! By volunteering to be a Watch Dog, you'll spend an entire day at Pattie. You'll receive a schedule for the day, a free t-shirt, and a complementary lunch. A portion of your time in the school will be spent in your student's classroom, which includes lunch with their class. Most of your schedule will be working directly with kids, but a portion of your schedule will also be to assist with safety, including: walking the halls and exterior of the building and making sure exterior doors are locked. Follow this link to sign up for a day or contact our school Counselor, Mr. Burton (burtonj@pwcs.edu) for more information. https://pattiees.pwcs.edu/be_involved/watch_d__o__g__s____dads_of_great_students__progra

Opportunity For Shared Decision Making!

The Principal's Advisory Council, consisting of both teachers and parents, meets once per month to make shared decisions about the school. It is vital that there is representation from every neighborhood that Pattie serves, and we are currently looking for a representative from Grayson Village. If you are interested in representing your community, please contact Mr. Lucciotti at lucciorj@pwcs.edu Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 15th at 3:30pm.

Panthers All Reading Together...Yeah! (P.A.R.T.Y.)

Throughout the month of October, every classroom will be reading the same book at the same time. As a school, we'll focus on story elements of fiction (conflict, resolution, plot, main idea, theme, and summarizing). We've chosen books that focus on diversity and promote inclusiveness of all students. This month, we'll be reading The Name Jar. We encourage families to share in this with their child(ren) at home by reading the book together, talking about diversity, and practicing identifying the story elements.

Twitter

Have you ever asked your student what they did in school today only to get a short, uninformative response? Twitter allows a unique opportunity for families to have a daily view into the awesome learning experiences happening throughout the day at Pattie. Twitter is not only an awesome way for us to communicate the variety of learning opportunities that students participate in regularly, but it can also give parents a starting point for engaging their student in conversations about what they're doing in school. Sign up to join and search for #pattiepanthers.
