It's National School Breakfast Week!
Materials include posters, breakfast activity sheets, sample social media messages, letters to parents, and morning announcements. The resources are accessible via Dropbox by following this link. Principals are encouraged to share the materials with teachers and staff who may help promote the School Breakfast Program.

Teaching the 2015 Baltimore Uprising
Join The William J. Watkins, Sr. Educational Institute in collaboration with the Reginald F. Lewis Maryland Museum of African American History and Culture and the Maryland State Department of Education in a one-day professional development workshop on the 2015 Baltimore Uprising. Participants will learn about the uprising, its causes and consequences through the photography of Devin Allen on display in the Lewis Now exhibit space. There will be a community conversation about the meaning of the uprising and its implications for community activists and civic leaders. The day will culminate with a presentation of new lessons to the Maryland State Department of Education’s African American History curriculum created by Dr. Brian C. Morrison of The William J. Watkins, Sr. Educational Institute.
Collaboration and New Learning Opportunities
2016 UDL-IRN Summit at Towson University
The intent of the UDL-IRN Summit is to gather practitioners and researchers from across the globe to build networks that support the systematic implementation of UDL in pre-school, K-12, and higher education classrooms. The summit is a unique opportunity to network and collaborate with educational leaders, practitioners, and researchers who are actively engaged in UDL implementation efforts. The Summit provides an excellent opportunity to build your professional network, share resources, ideas, and lessons learned.
The goals of the Summit are to:
- Identify and disseminate models of UDL best practices.
- Identify and disseminate effective implementation tools.
- Support and expand the UDL implementation research base.
- Foster increased focus and collaboration around UDL implementation and research
The 2016 UDL-IRN Summit will be hosted by Dr. Nancy Grasmick, former superintendent of Maryland State Schools and Towson University’s first Presidential Scholar for Innovation in Teacher and Leader Preparation.

“Assessment is the bridge between teaching and learning”- Dylan Wiliam
You are invited to the SECOND meeting of the new Maryland Assessment Literacy Collaborative (MALC). The purpose of the MALC is to develop the assessment literacy of all Maryland educators to improve student learning with regionally based support and professional learning.
The theme of this meeting is "My Assessment and What it Means to Me” and you are invited to attend, along with your colleagues. These meetings will be held regionally from March 3-9; please RSVP here to the location that is most convenient for you.
Our goal is to foster connections and dialogue between a variety of education stakeholders. If you know of education professionals in higher education, non-profits, and other partner organizations whom you think should attend, please send me their information.
If you would like to present about work happening in your school or office around assessment or FAME, please share your proposed presentation in the RSVP form. We look forward to increasing the level of collaboration and supporting educators assessment learning needs.

The Maryland Assessment Group (MAG) along with the Maryland Assessment Literacy Collaborative (MALC) are partnering to offer Maryland educators deeper learning about formative assessment and innovative classroom practices by content areas.
Attendees will participate in content specific assessment literacy workshops focused on creation and application. Make, Take & Post!
The afternoon Mini MAG sessions will feature innovative classroom and district assessment design and implementation.
The culminating activity of the day will be a book study journey through Dylan Wiliam's work, foreshadowing the capstone keynote experience at the November 2016 MAG Conference.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the nation's highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science). Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
The 2016 Awards will honor mathematics and science (including computer science) teachers working in grades K-6. Nominations close on April 1, 2016.
