Our Lenten Journey
As in previous years, our school will provide all students with the opportunity to participate in a Lenten Social Justice initiative.
This year’s project will once again help our students experience gratitude, the satisfaction of giving, and understand their calling to reach out and help those who are less fortunate. We are asking each family to assemble a Kindness Bag.
What is a Kindness Bag?
A Kindness Bag is collection of essentials, along with an opportunity for warm food or drink, and a message of kindness that is shared with vulnerable adults in our city.
These bags will be collected and distributed by Escuela John Paul I staff members to people at the Bissell Centre.
What do you need to do?
We ask that you and your child assemble one bag (or more if you wish) and bring it to school by March 22.
Today a large Ziploc bag will be sent home with your child and upon return, must be labeled either “male” or “female”.
Our goal is to assemble 400 Kindness Bags during the 40 days of Lent.
What should I put in the Kindness Bag?
Below is a list of suggested items:
· Soap (liquid soap can be used for both personal hygiene and washing clothes)
· Hand sanitizer
· Deodorant
· Toothbrush & toothpaste
· Tissues
· Face cloth
· Wet wipes
· New socks
· New underwear
· Mittens
· Instant hand warmers (e.g., Hot Shots)
· $5 - $10 Gift Cards (e.g., Tim Hortons, McDonald’s, Subway)
Please help us reach our goal of 400 Kindness Bags during this Lenten season, so that JPI can help the Bissell Centre help those less fortunate than us.
Thank you in advance, for your support.
