Walk-a-thon Purchases of WeDo and Mindstorm Robotics
LEGO WeDo Robotics
Robotics can cover such a rich diversity of skills and provide so much excitement in class. It’s quite engaging for students to apply their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and create structures that move, perform tasks, and behave the way they tell them to.
The WeDo products purchased provide a hands-on solution for introducing our students at Galileo to key learning standards while building teamwork and communication skills through the use of robotics. With this solution, students have everything necessary to build LEGO® models featuring working motors and sensors; program their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as well as language and literacy. The student-friendly, icon-based WeDo software is extremely intuitive and loaded with programming samples to get learners interested and excited about robotics.
Students as young as Kindergarten will be working on programming as well as engineering principles.
LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics
The robotics provides reinforcement of engineering concepts in addition to cross-curricular opportunities in science, technology, and math. Students are also allowed to creatively pursue the programming through the design process. They collaborate with their peers to solve problems and complete activities.
Although I have had success with grants for more robots, I am still pursuing additional funding opportunities to have enough robots for classes to rotate through the building process as well as the programming.
