St. Peter School News

September/October 2020

St.Peter School exists to provide a nurturing environment where students become Disciples of Jesus Christ, embrace the love of lifelong learning, and believe in the dignity of all people.

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.

Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." - Matthew 6:34

Dear Family and Friends of St. Peter School,

As September draws to a close, October will be here before we know it. The fall is such a special time of year as we transition to cooler weather and more hopeful days. We have had an unusual start to the 2020-2021 school year; I am sure we all look forward to brighter days ahead.

Distance Learning Options:

In September, I shared some options regarding Distance Learning. It has been recapped for your information below. Please note that if you wish to change your option for Quarter 2, please notify me via email (mtorre@spsdanbury.org) by October 16th,

  • Option 1 = 5-day in-person learning as long as it is safe within the community.
  • Option 2 = Distance Learning

Procedure:

  • If a family has chosen Option 1, they will have to decide two weeks prior to the end of the quarter if they are staying with Option 1 OR choosing Option 2 for the next quarter.
  • If a family has chosen Option 2, they will have to decide two weeks prior to the end of the quarter if they are staying with Option 2 OR choosing Option 1 for the next quarter.

Personnel Update:

We are still searching for a Music Teacher, a PE Teacher, and a second grade teacher. We are also looking for a Building Substitute. Please be aware that with the COVID - 19 restrictions, Music and PE opportunities will be modified in accordance with regulations. If you know anyone who is interested in any of these positions, please let me know.

We will have a guidance counselor beginning the week of October 5th. She is through Catholic Charities and will be availailble two days a week. She will be meeting with students virtually at least to start.

Be reminded that "Before and After Care" is by reservation only this year. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate drop-ins due to COVID-19 restrictions. Contact the office to reserve your spot or to be placed on a waiting list. We are sorry for the inconvenience this year.

Elementary School Athletics

Please review the letter which is attached. In light of the current circumstances, St. Peter will not be participating in Basketball at this time. This includes team formation and conditioning in cohorts. We all recognize how important it is to educate the whole child and we will seek other opportunities to foster extracurricular activites as appropriate and allowable given COVID-19 restrictions.
