Summer school

As you know, the recent snow days changed the last day of school, so we need to change the summer school schedule. With March weather so unpredictable, we do not know whether we might need another snow day this school year. The Park Hill Board of Education plans to consider new summer school dates during its March 29 meeting. Enrollment will start on April 2, and you can visit the summer school web page then to download and print the application. We will also mail applications home to our families.

Career Day approaching

Our Career Day will be held on Thursday, April 26th this year. Like in previous years, we are looking for speakers to come and share about their career and the path they took to get there. Presenters will be speaking to 2nd-5th grade students. Our kindergarten and first grade teachers are organizing the speakers for those grade levels.

Expanding Classroom Devices

The Departments of Technology and Instructional Technology are excited to announce we will be expanding the devices available in all kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms.

We recently surveyed elementary teachers to determine their technology needs, and the feedback was overwhelmingly clear: more devices are needed to achieve 21st century learning goals. After further research and teacher interviews, we have decided that beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, students in third through fifth grade will have one-to-one laptop access. Students in kindergarten through second grade will have two-to-one laptop access.

K-2 teachers also expressed a need for even more than a two-to-one level of access overall. Many K-1 teachers shared a desire to consider iPads as an alternative to traditional laptops. To discover the best fit for our students and classrooms, we will be piloting one-to-one laptops in select K-2 grade classrooms and one-to-one iPads in select K-1 classrooms. The one-to-one pilots will help us determine future actions regarding ideal device types and ratios at each of these levels.

You can expect more information in the coming months as plans are finalized and appropriate devices are selected and approved. We are enthusiastic about this expansion and delighted to be able provide the technology access students need to achieve their fullest potential in Park Hill.
