Strong Start Calendars
These calendars are for kids K-8. They are questions that we want dads (or any caregiver) to ask their kids each day instead of "What did you do at school today?' Because the answer is always "Nothing." So each week has a math, science, Language Arts, and social studies question with various silly questions on Saturdays and Leadership or Friendship questions on Sunday before the new week begins.
STRONG FATHERS FEBRUARY 2019 CHECK-IN CALENDARS
Early Childhood Activity Calendars
These calendars are for kids 3-5 years old. You can do some activities with younger kids but all of these activities work on numeracy, literacy, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and other activities such as library day or reading day each week.
STRONG FATHERS FEBRUARY 2019 EARLY CHILDHOOD CALENDARS
In the folders, you'll also find a great infographic to help your students and parents get off to a good start this school year.
ACCESS Testing
ACCESS testing will begin on Wednesday (February 5) and continue through March 13. For the next five weeks, please make sure students are walking quietly to and from their special area classes! Testing will take place in room, C-117.
Luis Cruz
Luis F. Cruz, PhD, is former principal of Baldwin Park High School, located east of Los Angeles, California. He has been a teacher and administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Dr. Cruz presents on methods from the best-selling book Transforming School Culture by Anthony Muhammad.
In 2007, Dr. Cruz led a collective effort to secure a $250,000 grant for Baldwin Park from the California Academic Partnership Program for the purpose of effectively utilizing “courageous leadership” to promote a more equitable and effective organization.
Since becoming a public school educator, Dr. Cruz has won the New Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and other community leadership awards. He and a committee of teacher leaders at Baldwin Park received California's prestigious Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association for significantly closing the achievement gap between the general student population and students learning English as a second language.
As a recipient of the Hispanic Border Leadership Institute's fellowship for doctoral studies, he earned a doctorate in institutional leadership and policy studies from the University of California Riverside. He earned an associate's degree from Mount San Antonio Community College, a bachelor's degree from California State University, Fullerton, and a master's degree from Claremont Graduate University.
Employee Climate Results
Kids in Crisis
Also, if you hear over the radio that we "have a runner." This is an indication that there is an adult keeping watch over that child. Using the same premise as above, stick your head in the hall, if possible, to see if a child runs by. Ask the monitoring staff member if they need support if you are able to provide it and then return to your normal routine.
We are very blessed to have a faculty filled with staff who have an "all hands on deck" mentality. It is difficult to walk away from a student in crisis and the adult managing that situation. Please know that you have the freedom and flexibility to help if needed and to walk away if the situation warrants.
Thank you for all you do!
Mercury Thermometers
The EPA says "If the liquid in the thermometer bulb is any color other than silver, it is not a mercury thermometer. If the liquid in your thermometer bulb is silver, then the liquid might be mercury or a non-toxic compound that looks similar to mercury."
Changes to Challenger that Effect All Staff
If your grade level/content area is having a meeting night, please inform Challenger.
Also, during Challenger, if we have any visitors to the building they must be signed in unless they have a badge. Please do not allow visitors in through any door except the front door unless it has been previously arranged through administration.
Front doors will lock at 3:00 each afternoon beginning in the near future. Visitors will have to press the button outside the front doors to gain entry into the school foyer.
Mackey Health Screenings
The Appointment Sheet for the health screening by Mackey Family Practice on February 21 has been posted in the office on the bulletin board beside the teacher boxes. Please sign up if you wish to have the screening. Three people may sign up for the same time.
