Principal's Message
This week, we Danced Through the Decades as we held our first school dance in over two years! Thank you to Mr. Ahrens, student council, and our teachers who came out to support this fun event for our students. We are looking forward to more dances in the future. We also had a wonderful experience for our students this week with our choral students singing alongside the Long Beach Camerata Singers, directed by Jordan High School’s choir director, Mr. Garcia. Thank you to Mr. Balajdia and his students for creating a beautiful learning opportunity for our students, with the Peace4Youth assembly, as we experienced music and stories reflected by composers of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our Owls continue to impress me with their hard work, inquisitive minds, and desire to be their best selves. Please take a look at some of our highlights from this week!

PTA Reflections Art Contest

The PTA Reflections art contest for 2022 is open! The theme for this year is "Show Your Voice" and it would be wonderful for all our Hughes students to show their voice by submitting an entry. Entry forms can be picked up on the table outside of the Attendance Office or email reflections.hughes@gmail.com. Visual art entries can be left in the bin outside of the Main Office. Students entering for music, literature, film, photography, and dance are strongly encouraged to submit digitally by emailing reflections.hughes@gmail.com. The deadline for submitting an entry is October 21, 2022.
The awards reception will take place on Friday, November 4, at 7pm at the Long Beach Expo Arts Center.
We look forward to our talented Owls showing their voice!

Hughes Guidelines for Success

Hughes - A Green Ribbon School
Reusable Water Bottles: We encourage all students to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce our plastic waste.
Clean and Green: As a Green School, our students should not litter on or around campus. Please make sure that all items are thrown away and that we also pick up trash that we see when walking or sitting by it. When we ignore trash on the ground, we are saying that we are OK with trash on the ground, and that's not the Hughes way!
Walk, Bike, Carpool: To minimize the amount of CO2 we add to our environment as well as noise pollution from traffic, we encourage all our students to walk, bike, or carpool to school, when possible.
Join the Hughes PTA! Our goal is for our entire school community to be members!
