Happy November! Here we are, 10 weeks into the school year. Thank you for your continued support of your student's academics and extra-curricular activities! We conducted successful Family Conferences last week as we follow a new norm of face-to-face, phone, and Zoom conferences. We will continue to find safe ways to connect and allow for two-way communication to aid in your student's success in school and life.

With a new month, I want to ask for your help in the following procedural areas at school:

• Assignments on Google Classroom during School Absences: If your child is absent from school, whether this is short or long term, please make sure absent work is being completed. Teachers are working hard to put assignments on Google Classroom to ensure your student remains caught up. If your student has a pre-arranged absence from school, please make sure your student has notified the teacher and collected assignments and work ahead of time.
• Student Absences: We request that all parents call the office by 9:00 am on the day of a student's absence to let us know the reason for the absence. We care about our students and worry when they are not at school. By calling the office before 9 am, this allows us to determine who is or is not at school and also helps our office to run efficiently! Parents will always be notified in a student is not at school and a call has not been made to the office.
• Cell Phones During Instructional Time & Contacting Parents: We have noticed an increase in student cell phone use this year and how difficult it is for students to put their phones away and focus on instruction. Please know that students will have their cell phones confiscated if they are using them during instructional time. A warning will be given the first time, but any further occurrences will result in a parent needing to pick the phone up from the office. You will be notified if your student's cell phone has been confiscated during class time. We also ask that if your student is not feeling well, they see Nurse Keary to be assessed for the need to go home rather than calling/texting a parent themselves. Students will not be checked out from the office for not feeling well to go home until they have seen Nurse Keary to determine symptoms and the need to leave school.
• School Attendance: Students must be at school 90% of the time or more. If your student is at risk for falling below 90% or has already fallen below this percentage, you will be contacted. Students will not be eligible for extra-curricular activities if their unexcused absences exceed 5 days. Excused absences include doctor's notes on file, attendance at funerals, and those approved by administration as the need to be absent. Research proves that attendance matters, every day!
