Help Build Our Prairie Trails Community

Being a new school, Prairie Trails does not yet have an established PTC (Parent Teacher Council). We are looking for parents who would like to get involved in helping to get our PTC up and running. We do have a few parent volunteers from Indian Grove and Euclid who also have children attending Prairie Trails helping to get us started. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon.

Socially distanced lunch time... Please send a small beach towel!

In order to keep our kindergarten students safely distanced while eating lunch unmasked in the lunchroom, we will be dining picnic style. In order to make this work, please send in an old towel with your child's name clearly labeled on it. They will use the towel for a week, and it will be sent home on Fridays to be washed and then brought back to school the following Monday. Thank you in advance for making this work.

Please help keep our students and staff safe!

Do not send your child to school if they show any new symptoms of illness: fever, runny nose, congestions, sore throat, headache, stomach ache, muscle/body aches, nausea, diarrhea, loss of taste/smell. The Covid Delta-variant looks very much like a cold or seasonal allergies. Please err on the side of caution when your child has new symptoms.

Additional Safety Practices:

  • All River Trails students, teachers and staff will be required to wear a mask indoors and on busses regardless of vaccination status.

  • Only essential school visitors will be allowed in the schools and are required to wear masks.

  • Masks will not be required for outdoor activities, such as recess & outdoor class.

  • All students will be eligible for remote learning if they are required to quarantine after being exposed to the virus, regardless of vaccination status.

  • The district still intends to implement weekly COVID-19 saliva screening tests through Shield Illinois for unvaccinated students and staff.

Afternoon School Car Pick Up

I have heard some concerns from parents regarding picking up their child at Prairie Trails and then making it on time to get their other children at either Euclid or Indian Grove. The 10 minute difference in ending time of the schools will help in getting from one school to the next. It may even reduce the parking lot crowding at Euclid and IG. Please know your children will be well supervised until you get there to pick them up. There will not be a need to rush, between schools. Remember, safety is key!

This school year, breakfast and lunch will be free to all students. This is funded by the USDA.

The breakfast program will be a take home bag given to students twice a week. Families will need to sign up for the program just once by sending an email to:

Email should include the following for EACH child in our schools:

  • each child: first and last name
  • school
  • grade

This will be available every day the student is in attendance at school. Students who pack their own lunch from home will still enjoy a bag of fruit, vegetables, and milk at no cost.

Before or After School Child Care

Kid Squad is a cooperative program between the River Trails Park District and School District #26. This program is available for parents who need Before and/ or After School Care for their children in kindergarten through 5th grades. Program will meet at the Weiss Center for the start of the 21-22 school year. Bussing will be available between Weiss Center and Euclid.

Online registration and parent manual available at Weiss Center or online at starting Tuesday, August 3. Follow this link for more information.

Child Tax Credit

Monthly Payments for Families with Kids (link)

Raising kids can be expensive, and the Child Tax Credit is here to help. President Biden’s American Rescue Plan increased the amount of the 2021 Child Tax Credit to support families with children. The full benefit of the Child Tax Credit is now $300 per month per child under age 6 and $250 for each child age 6 to 17.

The Child Tax Credit has been expanded to $3,000 per child 6-17 years old and $3,600 per child under 6. All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent. That means that nearly 90 percent of children in the U.S. will automatically receive the new child tax credit.
