Loveland Leader
May 2021
Mission
The mission of Loveland elementary school, in partnership with our actively involved community, is to promote excellence and instill a desire for learning by challenging each individual within a safe, supportive environment.
Loveland's Expectations
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Dear Loveland Families,
This will be the final issue of the Loveland Leader for the 2020-2021 school year. The past school year has been very challenging and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the many ways you have supported your children and the staff at Loveland this year. Thank you for going above and beyond to help deliver daily lessons to our Loveland learners during our yellow and extended learning time at home. Additionally, your attendance on Webex for Parent Teacher communication meetings and willingness to help meet the educational needs of your children makes a positive difference in your child’s education. Lastly, the Community Club fundraiser was an amazing success this year because of your willingness to support Loveland School. The entire Loveland staff is so appreciative of our Loveland parents, family members, and extended family members.
I hope you all have a very safe and enjoyable summer!
-Ms. Hornung

Staff Announcements
It is always sad to announce a departing of a member of our Loveland team. Ms. Reed, first grade teacher, is getting married and has accepted a first grade teaching position in Denver, Colorado. The Loveland staff sends well wishes to Ms. Reed with her upcoming wedding and new job adventure. Best of luck!
Ms. Ashlyn Dipple has been hired as our new first grade teacher. Ms. Dipple has been a member of the Loveland staff for the past three years, most recently as a student teacher for Ms. Reed. We are excited to have her join our team as a first grade teacher.
Information Needed
If your child will not be coming back to Loveland next fall because you are moving or transferring to another school, please let our office know as soon as possible. This information is very important to us as we prepare for fall classes.
Loveland Bunnies
The Loveland staff and students discovered baby bunnies on our playground last week. The students and staff have been protecting the babies and have been watching them grow. All students have been taught we are not able to touch them or play with them. Students and staff are having fun watching them grow!
Yearbook Update
The Loveland Community Club has purchased a 2020-2021 school yearbook for every child. The Community Club wanted to extend this gift as a THANK YOU for all your hard work, flexibility, and grace throughout this school year. We hope the yearbook will help you cherish the memories of this unique school year. We would like to especially thank Katie Bauerly who served as the editor and creator for the 2020-2021 Loveland yearbook. Katie has chaired the yearbook committee for the last several years and we would like to say THANK YOU! Thanks for your hard work and time over the years to make sure all the activities were captured and included in the yearbook!

Summer Learning Opportunities
Throughout the school year, as part of Westside’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process, students are assessed in reading and provided with strong instruction to support their needs. To engage families and extend the learning for students, we are sharing ways in which you can support your child with their reading. As we enter into summer, it is important to encourage practice in the area of reading so that students maintain the skills they learned this year.
This link: https://tinyurl.com/ue2tbc6v outlines opportunities to continue learning with and without technology. Included are links to various activities you can do with your child, as well as reading programs available in the community and some website/app recommendations. The top priority this summer is simply having your child read every day. This can include times when someone reads to or with them.
Summer Reading Tips for Parents
Set aside a consistent time each day for reading. Depending on your family’s schedule, reading time might be in the morning, afternoon or before bed. Whatever time you choose, stick to it, but also remember that flexibility around trips and special family events is OK.
- Read aloud to your reader. As school-aged children become better readers, parents often stop reading aloud to them. However, by reading more difficult books aloud to your reader, you help him learn new vocabulary words, concepts, and ways of telling stories or presenting information.
- Connect read-aloud choices to summer activities. Read your child books about camping, such as “Webster and Arnold Go Camping”, before or after a camping trip. When you read and discuss books about things your child has experienced, you help her learn important vocabulary and extend her understanding of experiences.
- Allow your child to choose books for summer reading. While it is important for your child to complete reading required by his school, it is equally important for him to read about topics that interest him, whether it is insects, dragons or a favorite fiction series.
- Take books along on outings. Pack books in your beach bag or picnic basket, and bring a stack on long car rides. You and your child can enjoy books together anywhere you go this summer.
- Encourage your child to write this summer, too. From writing postcards to friends and relatives to keeping a journal while on a trip, summer presents unique ways for your child to write about his own experiences.
Lunch Money
Your child’s lunch account must have a zero or positive balance at the end of the school year. Any money left over in the account at the end of the school year will not be lost. It will be transferred to the next school year, even if the student is moving to the middle school.
6th Grade Circle of Friends
6th Grade Clap Out
We will continue with the great Loveland tradition of the 6th grade clap out. We will have the sixth grade teachers lead the students out of the building for the last time on May 27th, at 1PM. Please join us on the playground to cheer and clap for our sixth graders. **Remember masks are required when present on the Loveland campus.**
Sixth Graders!
Congratulations to the 2021 sixth grade class for finishing their elementary school years, and all their accomplishments this past year. We wish them all the best as they enter Middle School.
