Hawk Happenings: Sept. 27th

Holy Rosary Regional School/Juan Diego Academy Community

Message from the Principal - Sept. 27, 2017

Happy Wednesday!

Our Annual Fund OFFICIALLY launches today. We have an overall goal of $146,000 to support teachers' salaries, tuition assistance, and the new playground! We need your help. We are asking for 100% participation from our families. The amount you donate is up to you (no amount is too small). All we ask is that EVERY family donates to this important fundraiser. You can donate in person or online at www.hrrsjda.org. Simply click on the Donate Now link, enter the amount you wish to donate (one time amount or monthly), and click on Annual Appeal in the Campaign drop-down menu.

We really need your help in reaching this goal. Thank you for your support and don't hesitate to reach out to friends and family. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

Have a wonderful week.

Blessings,

Katie Dempsey

Principal

Upcoming Events:

This Week:

  • Thursday, Sept. 28th - Pay2 Dress (Students pay $2 to wear "free dress" to support our NPH orphans or they can dress in Spirit/Seahawks Gear for free)
  • Friday, Sept. 29th - All School Mass at 9 am

MAPS Testing Begins Next Week!

For the first year, Holy Rosary students in grades 2 - 8 will take the MAP Growth test through NWEA. This replaces the ITBS test that we have taken for many years. This new test will be an excellent way to see what the kids know now, how to further differentiate instruction to optimize student growth, and how much the students have grown over the school year. We will test students in Reading, Language Usage, and Math in both the fall and the spring. The fall testing window will be Oct. 3 - Oct. 20 (this was extended for one week due to technical difficulties at NWEA). The spring testing window will be April 30 - May 25. Check out the paper that is in today's Communication Envelope. You can also find out more information about the tests at: https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/

Please check in with the individual teachers for your child's testing schedule and try your best to have your student at school those days (on time).

Thank you!

Annual Fund Launches!!

With just a few weeks complete in the new school year, I hope that everyone is transitioning well into the back to school routine. It is great to see so many familiar faces and new families too. Our Annual Fund Appeal kicks off this month and runs through November. This year we are asking all families to participate by making a donation to this fund. This year’s goal is $146,000 which is a 50% increase over last year’s goal, but accomplishing it will mean not only funding that margin of excellence, but also a brand new playground for our students. No donation is too small. You can choose to make a one time donation or you can pledge a monthly amount. Consider giving $25 a month for ten months which provides a total donation of $250. This year we are hoping for 100% support from our school families at amounts appropriate to their individual abilities.

To donate please see the following secure link on our website: https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/o5kPfZnwU-9YPZxE8gatew

Please choose the drop down for Annual Appeal. All donations are tax deductible. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Virtus Touching Safety Classes for Students

In today's Communication Envelope, you will receive an Opt Out form for the annual Touching Safety Program (Virtus) through the Seattle Archdiocese. You can read more about the program in the description below or go to https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/touchingsafetyprogram.cfm for more detailed information.

All students in grades K - 8 will take the one day (45 min) class some time between Tuesday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 12. If you do not want your child to be in the classroom for this class, simply sign and return the Opt Out form. If you DO NOT return the Opt Out form, your child will receive this class. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher. Thank you!

Touching Safety Program:

The job of ensuring children's safety is a challenging undertaking. The prevention of child sexual abuse requires more than adult awareness, education, and training about the nature and scope of the problem. We must also give our children the tools they need to overcome the advances of someone who intends to do them harm. The Teaching Touching Safety program guide (Teaching Touching Safety Guide) is a tool designed to assist parents and teachers in this important task. The Touching Safety program is a vehicle through which parents, teachers, catechists, and youth ministers give children and young people the tools they need to protect themselves from those who might harm them.

First Communion Classes for Older Students

Hello families! As some of you may know, last year we offered classes in the school for older students wishing to make their First Communion. This year, that will not be an option. Instead, if you wish to have your child make their First Communion and they are not enrolled in second grade, you may email kristen@visitationchurch.org to find out more information about Sunday morning classes. If your child needs to be baptized, you can contact Laurie Halte at the Holy Rosary Church office right next door starting at 9:00 or email her at laurie@holyrosarychurch.org. Thank you so much for your interest and have a blessed day!

Volunteer Opportunities

If you have a CDL with Passenger Bus endorsement and would be willing to drive a bus for field trip outings this year, please contact Berenice at the front desk (office@hrrsjda.org).
