Weekly Q & A
Answers to last week's questions:
- The two weekly questions were broken down into several specific questions to ensure completeness of information.
- The Knight of the Eucharist brown scarf with red stripe and the Eucharist insignia hereinafter will be referred to as “HS18+”.
- The Knight of the Eucharist brown scarf with yellow cross hereinafter will be referred to as “HS16-17”.
Question: What is the requirement for an individual to wear the HS18+ scarf?
Answer: To provide a little historical context to the answer, according to the memorandum sent on January 19, 2011 by then, the Assistant General Chaplain of Administrative Affairs, Rev. FX Nguyễn Thanh Bình, Knights of the Eucharist 18 and older must attend and complete a 2-3 day formation training (khóa chứng nhân) and be sworn in (tuyên hứa) as Knights of the Eucharist through a sworn in ceremony (nghi thức tuyên hứa) during Mass.
However, thereafter, the National Assembly (Hội Đồng Trung Ương) decided to focus only on Knights of the Eucharist as a Division (ngành, 16-17 years old) and not on the historical organization of the Knights of the Eucharist, which consisted of different vocation developmental phases for individuals 18 or older (i.e., khơi nguồn, xuất hành, nhập thế, xây đời, và hướng tâm).
As a result of that decision, at present, the HS18+ scarf has been designated as the “transitional scarf” to wear for individuals in transition from the Knight of the Eucharist Division to the vocation and role of a Eucharistic Youth-Leader. Individuals in transition are individuals from the Knight of the Eucharist Division turning 18 or older, and have yet to be certified as Youth-Leaders. These individuals do not have to attend additional trainings to wear the HS18+ scarf.
For new individuals 18 or older who join the VEYM, these individuals will not be sworn in, nor will they wear any scarf until they meet all requirements to be certified as a Youth-Leader Level I. At that point, they will wear the Youth-Leader red with yellow stripe scarf.
Question: What is the requirement for an individual to wear the HS16-17 scarf?
Answer: The HS16-17 scarf is reserved for members of the Knight of Eucharist Division, ages 16-17. To be conferred with the scarf, these individuals must attend a 1-day orientation (ngày tĩnh huấn) and be sworn in during Mass.
Question: Who can train Knights of the Eucharist?
Answer: Youth-Leaders who are certified as Youth-Leader Level II Knight of the Eucharist and above may train Knights of the Eucharist.
Question: Who can organize the 1-day orientation (ngày tĩnh huấn) for Knights of the Eucharist?
Answer: A Chapter Executive Committee (Ban Chấp Hành Đoàn) or higher may organize the 1-day orientation for Knights of the Eucharist.
Question: What is the complete voting procedure?
Answer: The voting procedure can be found on page 54-56, clause 62 of the VEYM Bylaw.
Question: In what situation can the Chaplain for an Assembly (Hội Đồng; Hội Đồng Miền, Regional Assembly; Hội Đồng Liên Đoàn, League of Chapters Assembly; Hội Đồng Đoàn, Chapter Assembly) lower the minimum requirements for candidacy to elected positions?
Answer: As the Chaplain of the Assembly, he has full authority to lower the minimum requirements for candidacy to elected positions when there is a lack of candidates.
