News and Updates From Room 2

What We Learned This Week

Reading - This week our story was Chinatown, a narrative told from the point of view of a little boy exploring his neighborhood. We used evidence from the text to determine who was telling the story. We also compared Anchorage and Chinatown.

Writing - We started our week off by writing a opinion paragraph answering the question "should we have a classroom elf?". We then brainstormed what our favorite recess activity was and gave reasons why a new kid at school should choose to that at recess.

Math - We started 2-digit addition this week. We will spend the first few lessons breaking apart numbers to help the kiddos understand why and how regrouping works. It may be tricky at first but we will keep practicing till it becomes second nature. Like I tell the kiddos “we can do hard things”.

Science - This week we talked about being prepared for severe weather like ice, wind and snow storms. We read several books about weather and are working on completing a "Severe Weather Handbook".

We are running low on some classroom supplies. Please consider donating some of the following to our classroom.

  • Pencils – our classroom supply is running low (we do a LOT of writing in 2nd Grade)
  • Erasers – We could use big pink erasers or the cap kind. Somehow the eraser part is always used up before the pencil part.

Also, many of the kiddos are running low on crayons and colored pencils since they get used up or lost. Please ask your kiddo if they need some fresh coloring supplies.
