Loudoun Interfaith Relief's News & Events ~ November 2014

A Time To Be Thankful...

As we enter this season of giving, please take a moment and think of your neighbors who are less fortunate. We wish we could say that this is our greatest time of need, but truthfully, hunger doesn't take a holiday or vacation - it's constant. We all seek the day when nobody is hungry, no child goes to bed with an empty stomach, no family wonders where their next meal is coming from. Until that day you and LIR will be there for them. Give to a family in need. Thank you!

Please Help!! $10 Grocery Gift Cards Needed!

The national average cost for Thanksgiving Dinner this year is $50! That's a large expense for some of Loudoun's food insecure families. We need your help to provide 2,000 meals to your neighbors in need.

Please help us collect Thanksgiving Food and $10 Grocery gift cards!

Items most in need are:

  • Gravy
  • Boxed Potatoes (mashed, scalloped)
  • Stuffing

  • Other Vegetables
  • Cranberry Sauce/Canned Cranberries

  • Boxed Desserts (Pie filling/crusts, brownies, cakes)

Scouting for Food - National Capital Area Boy Scout Food Drive

Saturday, Nov. 8th, 8am-5pm

All over Loudoun County!

Each November, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and leaders of the Goose Creek District of the National Capital Area Council take to the neighborhoods of Loudoun County in support of Scouting for Food. The mission of the service project is to collect food items that will be given to families needing assistance within their local communities.

Started in 1988, the Scouting for Food project is Scouting’s “Good Turn” to the community. The Boy Scouts are responding to the ever-increasing demand for basic needs assistance. Collecting a large stock of non-perishable food goes a long way to meeting the emergency food requirements of local agencies, not only during the holiday season, but well into next year. To make the food drive a success, Scouts not only go door-to-door collecting food: they understand that their job is not over when they finish collecting the food. Many Scouts log additional community service hours working in the collection sites, unloading vehicles and bags, and sorting the food donations. At some of the donation sites food is repackaged within a week for distribution to their clients – no small task considering the large volume of food collected.

Please fill the bags that the Scouts leave for you by Friday, November 7th for them to pick up early Saturday morning.

A Loudoun native, Jennifer lives in Leesburg with her husband and two children. When asked about taking over the helm at LIR, Montgomery said, "What an honor and privilege to lead such an important organization in Loudoun. You can't do anything if you're hungry, so feeding people is the top priority. I feel fortunate to have this opportunity."
