Heights Happenings
Winston Heights PS - Term 4, Week 4 2021
Principal's Message
WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4
Although students have only been back at school for a week or two, it feels like online learning is such a distant memory. It has been wonderful to see our students engaged in learning activities in their classrooms and to hear them laughing in the playground.
Thank you to our always supportive school community for following the constant organisational changes and complying with our COVID-safe processes.
The Winston Heights P&C would like to welcome all students back to face-to-face learning and celebrate the amazing work they did throughout lockdown. As a little welcome back gift, students will be receiving a packet of popcorn and a drink provided by the P&C. Students will bring this home with them today.
CHECK IN ASSESSMENTS FOR STUDENTS IN YEAR 3, 4, 5, 6
Our Year 3-6 students will be completing the online reading and numeracy Check-in Assessments in Week 6 and 7 - Monday 8 November to Friday 19 November.
The Check-In Assessments are mapped to the NSW Mathematics and English syllabuses. These assessments supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.
SEMESTER 2 STUDENT REPORTS
Our Semester 2 student reports will look a little different to the reports you received for your child in Semester 1.
NESA and the NSW Department of Education have outlined that schools are still required to issue formal written reports to parents and carers in Semester 2. Student reports should continue to focus on the learning undertaken with feedback on individual student learning progress. This semester, Winston Heights PS reports are based on the learning that has occurred during online learning and face-to-face learning in the classroom.
Semester 2 student reports will contain the following information:
- Overall progress and achievement for English and mathematics
- Future learning directions for every student in English and mathematics
- General comment
- Social development and commitment to learning descriptors
- Online learning descriptors completed by students
Semester 2 student reports will be distributed in Week 11 - from Monday 13 December.
2022 STUDENT LEADERSHIP PROCESS
Many Year 5 students are now in the process of applying for school leadership positions for 2022. Detailed information about the leadership process was distributed earlier this week.
If your child has any questions about the leadership process, please encourage them to have a chat with their classroom teacher.
SCHOOL ORGANISATION FOR 2022
Our school has already begun the complex process of organising school and class structures for 2022.
In order to ensure that the needs of students are met, parents and carers are invited to forward information that you believe should be considered in regards to the formation of classes for next year. Requests can include information regarding medical conditions, requests to have particular children separated and/or any other aspect that you feel may have an impact on your child’s learning.
Parents are asked to forward requests to the Principal, Mrs Bullock, in writing no later than Monday 8 November to ensure that your request can be considered when classes are formed by the teachers and executive team.
Please note that consideration for placement with specific teacher and/or students are unable to be considered due to the complexity of school organisation. Whilst we make every effort to accommodate requests, please note this is not always possible due to the complex nature of forming classes.
ARE YOU LEAVING WHPS AT THE END OF THE YEAR?
To assist with school planning for 2022, it is essential to know the anticipated student enrolment numbers for next year.
If your child is currently in Kindergarten to Year 5 and will be leaving our school at the end of the year, could you please inform the office as soon as possible.
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENT FOR 2022
We are now accepting in area Kindergarten enrolments for 2022.
Please contact our admin team through the school email for assistance with online enrolment for your child for 2022.

Family Email Address Update
A few families have asked if there can be two parent/carer emails entered into our data base so they can receive our school emails. Great news!! Our system has now been updated and we can now add two email addresses.
Next week we will be sending home a letter requesting a 'primary' email and a 'secondary' email from families so we can start to update in our system.
Please note: both email addresses will receive our newsletters and important school update emails, however only the Primary email address will receive requests for payments for school fees and excursions. Please take this into consideration when choosing the 'Primary' and 'Secondary' email addresses.
Kind Regards
Lee Wood
School Administration Manager
Tell Them From Me Surveys
Once again it is time to hear from students, teachers and parents about their thoughts on the different aspects of school. The Tell Them From Me Survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes.
The Parents and Carers survey opens today and will remain open until the 12 November. We encourage you to take the opportunity to have your thoughts and opinions heard.
Students and teachers will complete the online surveys over the next few weeks. We would greatly appreciate your input via the following link: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/whps.
